For the past few days, whenever I have clicked on the UPDATE SHIELD... after entering my authorisation, I get this screen message.
I have no idea what it is referring to.. nor what I should do about it...
when I click on Close.... the updater does whatever and then reports "Your system is up to date"...
Fixed! Go to the fix.

As you know, @shutter 😉, I'm no Linux expert, but I suspect from that screenshot that those two areas have somehow picked up an error - maybe a re-install of the OS will cure it?

@jab1 Yup !... probably would.... I just wish all these guys who write Operating systems, would at least point you in the right direction to solve the conundrums that they flag up ! ! ! ...
I`m looking at doing a new install of Mint 20.1 on a separate SSD. and putting all my progs files folders music pics etc on a huge 2TB SSD.... but have not quite worked out how to do that... then I can just swap around the different os! ( presumably) ! ssd/hdd`s .

Understood @shutter - and Linux error messages are not the easiest to understand - as I have found out.😉
BTW - I'm waiting for my 'old' machine to come back with a repaired screen before I do the job on the 'new' one.

Has the PPA for mkusb been updated recently?
What files are there in /etc/apt/sources.list.d? - It is the path in the error message.
If there is more than one file containing the URL to the PPA then you could try commenting out the lines in one file then trying the 'UPDATE SHIELD'.
(I would have a live USB stick handy just in case you need it.)

Alistair

Dunno !... .mksub is showing (Empty) and 0 items

So... Should I just delete those mkusb plain text document files?
Not going to need mkusb for a while, I don`t think.
Then , presumably I can run the latest update for the nvidia graphics driver ? ? ? ? and all should be well with the world ???????

If you do not need the mkusb utility (you have the unetbootin PPA listed) then I would uninstall or purge mkusb first.
Then you may remove the mkusb PPAs. I did this myself last week prior to doing a 'do-release-upgrade'. I did it by creating a new folder "sources.list.d-old" then moving the ppa files to that folder. The machine did not complain, so it may be safe to simply delete the files.
Since you are running Linux-Mint, this may be a useful starting point:

@archerry OK so I did sudo apt purge mkusb on the terminal... and all went well..( presumably !) .
but
Having made a "new folder" as per your title, the File System... I cannot "move" it to anywhere.. and I cannot delete those "highlighted" mkusb files showing on the recent posting. (both move and delete are greyed out) .
After doing the nvidia driver update... I still got that original error message.
If i were to follow the Terminal instructions on your linky to remove .... what would I put after the remove for the name of the file ?

As Mint is based on ubuntu, this link may be the source of the PPA:
https://launchpad.net/~https://launchpad.net/~mkusb/+archive/ubuntu/ppamkusb/+archive/ubuntu/ppa
If so your commands will be:
sudo add-apt-repository --remove ppa:mkusb/ppa
sudo apt-get update

Alistair

Moving data is easy - especially if its on a separate machine.
Just recently done it.
Bought a new PC with a 8-Core AMD Ryzen 7 5800X to replace a sluggish old PC.
It had a small 256GB nvme0, onto which I installed a mint-like distro [LMDE].
Slotted in my old SSD drives, adjusted /etc/fstab to point to the correct places,
Amended a few OS entries in /etc, recreated my users (in the correct order) etc
I didn't even take any special backups. 🙄
Obviously, you'd need a lot more care if you were loading a second OS onto a live PC.

Which begs the question, why did you publish yours ? as opposed to useful information containing some links......
Actually, I have found a couple of really easy to follow pages of instructables, that I have bookmarked and saved for future reference
