Re: After EE switch-over one device won't connect

In that case, @Buggwrit , I suggest downloading the 'Core' version from here: https://zorin.com/os/download/ and see what you think. A machine that can handle W7, with that amount of memory, should handle it easily.

You don't even need to install it - you can 'test-drive' it from a pendrive.

@jab1

Sounds good. I'm interested to give it a go and I'll let you know how I get on. Might be a while before I have time though, that could be a winter project.

No problem, @Buggwrit .Let me know when you get round to it, and I'll see if the comprehensive 'unofficial guide' is available - it is a 'work in progress' at the moment, so not quite ready for new users.

Re: After EE switch-over one device won't connect

@jab1  I've downloaded the Core version but it'll have to go on the back burner for the moment. In addition to the connectivity problem that's the subject of this topic I'm also having a recurrance of problems with email since the switch-over. These were covered extensively in my thread 'More Greenby Grief' and appeared to have been resolved, at least I've had no problems for months now until the switch-over but now I'm back in the situation where I can receive emails but can't send them.

This is all doing my head in and I feel intensely angry with Plusnet for landing me in this situation. I've been with them since about 2008 and feel totally betrayed. I'm 82 years of age and my brain is finding it difficult to cope with the stress this is causing.

Sorry you have problems, @Buggwrit, and even sorrier I can't help with the email issue - I have abandoned PN/Greenby because of the incompetence of the 'migration'.

Re: After EE switch-over one device won't connect

Yes, John , I think I may have to do likewise even though changing an email address that I've been using all that time is going to be another headache.

Would you mind telling me who your new email host is? I'm reluctant to go with the data-mining outfits like Google and Microsoft.

Mike.

@Buggwrit try changing  the outgoing (smtp ) server setting in your email client from relay.plus.net to relay.force9.net

No problem with that, Mike - it is Mythic Beasts (https://www.mythic-beasts.com/ ), and if you need help, just ask  on here - I may be able to answer questions, but if I get stuck, @MisterW  aimed me in the right direction.

Re: After EE switch-over one device won't connect

@MisterW  That was one of the fixes. It's been working fine with that until now. Thunderbird reports a username/password authentication error but these haven't changed.

@jab1 Thanks John, that looks interesting.

Re: After EE switch-over one device won't connect

@Buggwrit in that case I'm confused!.

relay.plus.net is routed directly to the Plusnet smtp server at the moment. Whilst you still had a Plusnet account you would have been able to authenticate with it. Once your move to EE closed your Plusnet account you would have been unable to authenticate and so needed to change to an smtp server that is routed to Greenby. relay.force9.net is so routed and so the credentials on your Greenby account should work.

If you've changed any passwords or mailbox names on the Greenby system however, you will now need to use those rather than any Plusnet ones.
