Administrator only?

Hi guys
Is it possible to delete a normal user from XP and literally only have an admin user?
Reason I ask is that I want to setup a XP OS in VMWare and only use it to host apache and a few other services. Nothing that a normal user could ever need to access.
Any ideas?

Re: Administrator only?

yes.  the limited account in windows is so limited that most users default to admin accounts.

Re: Administrator only?

The only slight problem with doing this is if the profile get corrupted then you cant fix it as there is no other users to login as. As long as you know the risks that may be acceptable

To me that isn't a problem since I'll install a service to back up all files accross the network anyway.
My main gripe is HOW do I delete the only normal user account? - IE so the login screen doesn't show any users?
I just want a system that boots up and runs its services. No need for any users to log in except for admin very rarely.
If I got into the users module in the control panel it won't allow me to delete the user.
Basically it will be a VMWare system which will require minimal interaction with. I don't want to give it any user accounts incase people start guessing the passwords etc. For the admin account I have one very long favourite password which with brute force would take years to crack.

Re: Administrator only?

Ok I managed to delete users using usrmgr.msc... only snag is Administrator displays on the login screen!
How can I stop any identities being displayed?

Re: Administrator only?

You dont need to do a reg hack from a command prompt type control userpasswords2 and this will give you the option to set auto login.
Depending on the service you may not need to login anyway as a lot of services start without a user logging in

Re: Administrator only?

It wasn't the auto login I was trying to stop. That can be stopped with a password!
I just didn't want any account/usernames displayed on the login screen. When I deleted the only normal user it then displayed 'Administrator' on the main login screen - Not something I wanted! The answer was a registry hack!
userpasswords2 was an unrecognised command at the prompt!

Re: Administrator only?

I most certainly can!

I didn't even have to reboot either - Just logged off and the only remaining user (Administrator) no longer showed up on the login screen!

Re: Administrator only?

What would it show? - Normally it would try to login the default user and go straight to desktop.
With only the admin (with a password set) what else would the system show instead of a login screen?

Re: Administrator only?

It would show the
"Press CTRL+ALT+DEL" to login box which you get by pressing it twice on the standard Welcome Screen.
