Is anyone else having problems with AVG free not downloading anything when you try to update?

Re: AVG free update problem

I'd tried this update several times without success. I've just disconnect/reconnected and gone from Juniper 10 to Juniper 8 and now the update has worked.
I had wondered if it was an MTU issue as we have seen this in the past with new gateways but I was able to ping avg.com with -f -l 1472 so I don't think it was that.

Re: AVG free update problem

what version of AVG are you using ?
I have found that ver 8 sometimes causes update problems but ver 7.5 seems to work fine.

Re: AVG free update problem

Yep, I'm on V8 as they said they were withdrawing support for V7.5.  We had this problem late last year and AVG issued a patch to sort it out.

Re: AVG free update problem

I've seen various oddities with AVG8 Free over the last few days (and longer).
Generally I've taken to doing a full uninstall & reinstall from a new download.
Once or twice I've even had to use the AVG Remover - found here: http://www.avg.com/download-tools
(normally that sort of brute force is only applied to Norton!)  Crazy

Re: AVG free update problem

Manual update failed twice but worked on the third occasion.  They seem to have a problem i think.

Re: AVG free update problem

I'm on 8.0.176 and trying a manual update is working fine.
If anyone else has it fail can they check which gateway they are on - it may be a coincidence that it worked for me after switching gateway when a few minutes earlier it had failed.

Re: AVG free update problem

I sometimes have trouble updating, but put it down to the servers being busy, and try later.  It usually works the second time.

Re: AVG free update problem

Just trying it, seems exceptionally slooooooow.  Since I moved from PAYG to Option 2 AVg downloads have been relatively slow, but uaually in the 50-60kbps, not in bytes/sec!!!!!!!  I have wondered, and asked why antivirus definition updates are classed as download servers/sites?Huh
I do suspect there is an issue here.

Re: AVG free update problem

I just tried goinmg onto http://www.avg.com/download-tools but IE tells me there is no connection and can not display the web page.
I've been having problems with AVG for weeks now and in fact it's not been working all this time.
It's strange because I can get on to certain sites such as bbc.co.uk and others but not AVG.com and I can't update it at all.
My network connection icon in the bottom right says that a cable is unplugged but it isn't.
It's all very peculiar.
I'm frightened to go on the web without protection.
I've even tried to uninstal AVG using the windows facility which seems to work ok until I go to install it again and it tells me there is another anti virus software installed.
Any ideas?

Re: AVG free update problem

I had an automatic update at 3.20p this afternoon and just done one manually, although there was nothing else to update.  Seems to be OK for me.
