Re: AVG Error

You can just disable the add-on in IE if AVG admin doesn't work (though it should).
Doing it that way also avoids AVG nagging that you are at risk.

Re: AVG Error

ah yes you can disable it but then it shows an annoying warning in the notification area all the time which drove me nuts 'til i found how to uninstall it completely Smiley

Re: AVG Error

In the recent updates the admin is changed so that you can "ignore" it, so no error in the System Tray.

Re: AVG Error

I'm beginning to get worried about AVG.  I couldn't get it to work to remove the link scanner so I uninstalled it and downloaded again.  It wouldn't let me register with my email or password as it said 'already used'.  I had to use a newly created email address and change my password.  Then it said I would receive an activation email.  It still hasn't arrived and I've looked in spam as well.  Is there a way I can free my previous email address that I want to use again?
Apart from not activating it because I don't have an email it seems to have installed.  I am told I have version 8.0.169 and virus database 270.6.13/1641.  Is this correct?

Re: AVG Error

With reference to paulh's comment about the warning mark on the icon, I disabled the link scanner add-on in IE and Firefox, as HP noted earlier and this worked fine with no resulting annoying exclamation mark.
I changed over to Avast yesterday and so far so good - computer seems a bit faster too.

Your virus database is out of date.  You can update this manually if yor system isn't set to do so automatically.  My present one is 270.6.14/1643 but this will possibly update itself further this morning.

Re: AVG Error

Yes, updating has been a problem for a few days.  They issued a large prog update and it just overloaded their servers.  It all seems to have settled down now.
