AVAST system scan

As there is no "specific" Anti-Virus Software board, I am posting in here....
I have changed from AVG FREE to AVAST FREE... when I had AVG, it would run a full system scan "in the background" when I scheduled it ... the only notification (I think) was an icon in the lower tool bar...
Now I have AVAST it runs a Full System scan, but there is a rather large notification box, which covers the bottom right scroll bar.. If I click on the X the box disappears. BUT does the scan continue to run? or is it cancelled by clicking on the X ?

Check the task manager, look at the CPU usage when you close the box to see if it drops or stays at the same level. If it stays at the same its still scanning (also you'll see the process still running too).

Yes, it's still running.
If you right click on the tray icon and open up the interface you'll see the progress bar.
