Re: AIR apps for MAC LINUX and Windows

If it isn't on there add the iplayer crap on to the list. You can watch but if you want to d/l you need Air  Crazy
I still hate the bbc for closing down the get_iplayer app. It was a great free app that did everything I wanted to do, i.e. download radio but with them closing the RTMP to open codec's it is only useful now for radio @ streaming speed. I used to get full speed downloads.

Re: AIR apps for MAC LINUX and Windows

get_iplayer is back Grin
Make a backup of your current get_iplayer and enter
./get_iplayer --update

This should now have a version number of 2.78
Alternatively, you can load the full thing from
ftp://ftp.infradead.org/pub/get_iplayer/get_iplayer-2.78.tar.gz

(Ignore the windows sub-directory etc).
It even works with HD programmes for me. Grin

Re: AIR apps for MAC LINUX and Windows

Found I had Adobe AIR on one of my Win XP laptops, so looked it up, seems you only need it if you write programs - is this another Adobe waste of space?

Re: AIR apps for MAC LINUX and Windows

Don't know what it does, but
Quote
On January 28, 2009, Adobe claimed that there were over 100 million installations of Adobe AIR worldwide, and that "the majority of AIR runtime installations occur at the time the first AIR application is installed by a user."
[3]  The large number of installations is actually due to the fact that Adobe AIR was included with all downloaded installations of Adobe Reader 9 (released in July, 2008), with no option for exclusion either in the download or in the installation.
[4]  As of February, 2010, Adobe still bundles Adobe AIR (along with the application Acrobat.com) with the Adobe Reader 9.3 download, with no option for exclusion, and the installation file for Adobe Reader 9.3 still installs Adobe AIR without user permission.

from Adobe
Quote
The Adobe® AIR® runtime enables developers to use HTML, JavaScript, Adobe Flash® software, and ActionScript® to build mobile and desktop web applications that run as standalone client applications without the constraints of a browser. Adobe AIR and the Adobe Flash Platform unleash the creativity of designers and developers by providing a consistent and flexible development environment for the delivery of applications across devices and platforms. Support for additional platforms, including Android, is under development.

Re: AIR apps for MAC LINUX and Windows

Thats why I said I will NOT install Air on my Linux boxes, so no iplayer off-line (without get_iplayer) as they require you to use Air to get any proggies.

Re: AIR apps for MAC LINUX and Windows

is that because you have to compile them after downloading?, cant you just download and run in Linux?

Re: AIR apps for MAC LINUX and Windows

However http://community.plus.net/forum/index.php/topic,86809.msg719994.html#msg719994 is better than the BBC's iPlayer.
