A little test - Rewriteable media.

I took a photograph of some of the rewriteable media I have about the house. Both are about the same size and both look quite similar if you remove the outer sleve on one. The difference is that one can hold about 6,500 times more information than the other. Can you guess which one it is? Grin

Re: A little test - Rewriteable media.

The 5.25" floppy (on the left) is double sided / double density so can typically store 720Kbytes (720,000 Bytes)
The other I assume is a single layer DVDRW storing typically 4.7GBytes (4,700,000,000 Bytes)
So the DVD has 6,528 times the capacity, not 150,000 so it's impossible to answer your question  Tongue

Sorry, don't know where I got that figure. You are right. Now I know why my A-Level maths result was not what I expected! Grin

Re: A little test - Rewriteable media.

Well the one on the left holds 360KB. Standard 5.25" floppy, double density.
Divided by 150,000 is only a couple of bytes - unlikely.
Multiplied by 150,000 is about 50GB - more likely.
So what is it? An oldish IBM Winchester drive platter?

Re: A little test - Rewriteable media.

Was actually more of a joke than a question. It is one of the 5.25 inch floppies I still use for my Commodore 64. Only bought the 1541 drive about a year ago as Santa could never afford one when I was a kid. Embarrassed
