Personally wouldn't touch another Buffalo. Got one here, still alive but does make some unhealthy sounds on a daily basis. Won't be long before I need to rip it out and stick it into a permanent host machine.

I've got a 1TB in my PC.
Presently has about 80% unallocated as even 150GB /home seems excessive.

You make a good point.  Hard drives get bigger but most of the capacity remains unused.  The capacity is a good selling point for suppliers of new PCs.
