4 Port USB hub query

Looking for a 4 Port USB hub....on ebay... and see some are USB 2.0 and some are USB3.0 
what is the difference?  Want to use it on my laptop,(s) and possibly on my Android Tablet...
Is 3.0 preferable to 2.0..... ( because it is the latest version ? ? )  or what  ?

3 is significantly faster if the device supports it

You'd also need a USB 3 port on the laptop or tablet to see any benefit.

I would think my laptop(s) are USB 2.0  so getting a 3.0 would not be any different on the socket to a USB2.0 ...
There are different "designs" and some of the USB 3.0 seem to be more of what I am looking for...

USB3 is backward compatible with usb 2 .
hopefully if you get USB 3 now if you upgrade a new laptop its ok , if you get a usb 2 then later you may lose out on speed . thats all

Also USB hubs tend to be powered (with a few exceptions)
Make sure whichever hub you get that you get one that can be externally powered. A standard USB port can push out 0.5A (sometimes 1A) as standard which isn't enough to power some external peripherals.

If your laptop has an ExpressCard slot on the side, you can buy a USB 3.0 ExpressCard to upgrade your laptop to USB 3.0, but again, you need USB 3.0 hardware to see th ebenefit, otherwise it's just USB 2.0 with blue sockets, and more expensive...
