3g dongle query re right sim

I have a 3g dongle on that £4.95 offer, and have d/loaded the s/ware to unlock.
(I'l find link if of interest).
Can I just insert any provider's SIM card to get connected after it's unlocked; ie same sort you use in phone,
or do you need special data SIM's.

Any sime should work, but what you can access may vary - I know Orange have to issue a new SIM to enable 3G access, although many/most issued over the last few years probably had 3G enabled anyway.
As to costs - this will vary dramatically depending upon your package/tariff.
