2704N config download problem

Have been trying to download my 2704N config using http://192.168.1.254/dumpcfgdynamic.cmd
This gives the usual router login page, then after entering the pw an error message
Sorry!

Firmware version is 7.275.2_F2704N_Plusnet
Is there a different default pw for this function, or has the function been disabled in a firmware update?

Re: 2704N config download problem

Hi Salran01, welcome to the forum.
Well I sincerely hope you are just experiencing a glitch. The password should be identical to the one on the label and reference card that came with the router. If you really continue to have a problem with this, then try logging in with http://192.168.1.254/expert_user.html first and then enter the http://192.168.1.254/dumpcfgdynamic.cmd
Please tell us as soon as possible if this works.

Re: 2704N config download problem

The router logs on to Basic, Advanced and expert_user.html with the admin pw, and as far as I have tested the functions in all 3 work as they should.
Can switch between Basic, Advanced and expert_user.html within the session without reentering the pw but when I try http://192.168.1.254/dumpcfgdynamic.cmd within the same session I get  the same error message

Changed the pw to see if that would force all functions to use the new pw - new pw worked except dumpcfgdynamic.cmd, which continued to give the same error.
Wondering if this as a new (last 4 weeks) 2704N has had the firmware tweaked for bug fixes and prevention of unauthorised access, even though Plusnet do not have a new version published.
Is it possible to get Plusnet to say if there have been any tweaks, or to compare the firmware version with a router where dumpcfgdynamic.cmd has worked.
Router details:
  Firmware version: 7.275.2_F2704N_Plusnet
  Board version: F@ST2704N
  Software variant: Version 1.0
  Boot loader:  7.275.2

Re: 2704N config download problem

There IS a newer firmware version - 7.275.2_F2704N_Plusnet - which you have, and it's now on 2704n's recently supplied by Plusnet.
7.273.1_F2704N_Plusnet was the original firmware version where the command worked.
This v2 firmware version "sorts out" the MTU issue, but I understand that it also removed a system "log" - what that was I'll have to investigate, but it certainly sounds like the repercussions are more "extensive". Anyone that's been supplied with a 2704n with the v2 firmware is stuck for now.
For those with v1 firmware that want to play with their config, I strongly recommend that they log into the Member Centre and go to Automatic Router Setup in >Connection Settings, and Disable it. Hopefully that will prevent the tr069 system from possibly updating the firmware to v2, but it does mean you have to configure username etc yourself and manually resolve the MTU settings if you have the issue, if you do a factory reset.
The v2 firmware (AFAIK) does nothing to address the issues with Port Forwarding or the Wireless issues.
Edit: In addition to the above, make sure that the username field never has the tr069 username present, only your own, when connecting to the internet.

Re: 2704N config download problem

Yup, same issue here with a new router which has v2 FW. Fingers crossed there's a way around it as I'd like to enable bridge mode. Why can't they have it as an option by default? Ah well.

Re: 2704N config download problem

Hi edwardmlyte, welcome to the forum.
I'd guess that the "decision-makers" at Plusnet on this, do not come from engineering technical backgrounds. There might be one or two that have done an IT course or whatever and reckon they are expert engineers, but I suspect most are bean counters. I have yet to understand what they think they have gained from having such awful customised firmware complete with some appalling bugs (never mind the cost of having it written).
I have an idea or two on what might possibly be a "non-complicated" way around this, but it might be hairy and would certainly be "experimental".
Could you, and anyone else following this on the v2 firmware, check, after logging in with expert_user if you are allowed to run the command http://192.168.1.254/backupsettings.html

Re: 2704N config download problem

Yeah I can. And it downloaded the config file. That can also be accessed via the expert user pages without an issue.
