12.04 fails after login!

Managed to get round to installing 12.04 on my home system this weekend. I installed over a copy of 11.04 but now when I login and type in my password the screen just freezes. My mouse pointer will move around but can't click on anything. I have a nvidia 6800gt card, could it be related to this post http://community.plus.net/forum/index.php/topic,104430.0.html

Did you install the latest Nvidia driver v295.59 (released on 11th June 2012),  as that should fix the previous problems and has your 6800GT listed as a supported device - http://www.nvidia.co.uk/object/linux-display-amd64-295.59-driver-uk.html

Thanks Purleigh, I managed to boot up by clicking on the ubuntu image on the login box abd switching to 2D mode. Found it by accident really! I now have the drivers installed that are built in to ubuntu and things seem ok. I will look into installing the nvidia drivers you linked tomorrow when I have a bit more time. Just checking though is that link for 32bit drivers?

I'd love to check out your vid as well but as per flash isn't working on this system either
