Youview box trouble

Hi

Box came up with "Update available" this morning so I ran it but now its stuck in cycle of trying to restart

I have tried turning on / off as that is all I know. Currently leaving it off for 30 minutes

Ive read about Resetting the box but cant find how to do that. Know theres help using Box but cant get to it !

Any help gratefully received Thanks bamboozled

Re: Youview box trouble

Thanks for reply

I will have to try a reset of some kind because I have noticed that Box goes through cycle Waking up Please wait Loading then the Blue light goes off - and goes Red - so presumably switches itself off

Then Blue light comes back and cycle starts again

Re: Youview box trouble

How old is the youview box and exactly which model?
For example - does the mains lead go straight to the box or is an external supply plugged in?
If a reset does not fix it, a hardware failure (the hard drive?) may have occured.

Re: Youview box trouble

Hi and thanks for reply

Guess Box may be 4 to 5 years old - time flies may be more lol

Model is DTR-T2120/500G/plusnet

Box plugged in to socket using a transformed plug ?

At least I now know Model No. if i need to do reset lol

Re: Youview box trouble

One further Q in case you can help

I was looking to see how to reset 2120 but its in its cycle so I dont seem to be able to get to any menus or break its cycle

However following intructions does not seem to work either. I turn box off then on and red light appears - but - pressing downshift button (above Back button) does not turn light on/blue so I cant get to Maintenance Menu to reset ?

Am I doing it wrong pls

https://support.youview.com/youview-box/box-and-remote/using-maintenance-mode/

You will need to go in via Maintenance Mode.
Note read ALL the linked page as you could loose all your recordings.
The method varies from model to model.
Again, you could loose ALL your recodings.

Re: Youview box trouble

hi i dont mind losing recordings - dont have anything i really want to keep

however turning switch off and trying to turn on with remote down arrow wont work

did find a 2120 reset instruction on here which says hold down arrow on set top box [with power off] - then turn power on

hold down button till maint menu appears ar bottom of screen [i can see that now]

but when i then let down arrow go and press Power i get no further

Sorry i may be stupid but am i mssing something out - as box just goes into cycle routine again

cheers bamboozled [i chose name or a reason lol]

Re: Youview box trouble

Ok, best I can suggest is to switch it off at the mains and leave it for a few hours.
Try it then.
If that fails disconect the internal hard drive and try again.
Google for instructions - its not difficult to get at.
If it works without a hard drive connected thats a big hint 🙂

Re: Youview box trouble

Hi Gandalf

Thanks for the message - you probably read earlier Box asked me to allow update this morning after which it does a Boot up cycle then it finishes by turning itself off and then straight back on

I have tried all suggestions and nothing has worked. Just left it off for 3 hours ish but made no difference. Problem is I am looking for a way to reset it [not got anything vital recorded]

I can get message across bottom that leads to Maintenance but it says Y=Power and when I press the Power button nothing happens

Am I dong something wrong pls or is there a different way ?

cheers bamboozled - but it doesnt take much lol

Re: Youview box trouble

Thanks for getting back to me @Bamboozled

Can you confirm you've tried the following steps?

Make sure your box is connected to the internet

Open the Main Menu

Select Settings*

From Information & reset select Factory reset

Select Reset

Enter the numbers you see on screen to confirm you want to reset your box

Your box will now reset itself and we’ll walk you through the setup again

Re: Youview box trouble

No have not done it like that - I cant because I cant find a way to break the cycle of it booting up

It gets as far as Loading ...thenscreen goes black - then light goes Red - then back to 1 Blue one and so on

cheers bb
