I had an email saying Universal is being binned by Freeview in January however, recorded programmes can be viewed until 20 Feb 2020.
If they are recorded on my YouView hard drive why I can't watch them after that?

Probably for the same reason as Sky recordings can't be viewed if you don't have a valid subscription. If the channel isn't available on the platform, or there isn't a valid account subscription in place, the box won't decode the content. It will still be there, but probably come up with something like "content not available".

It's been binned by YouView and not freeview - as they are scrambled channels I expect the decryption key or whatever will expire a month or so after.
