new phone and broadband customer

hi
using the Internet from my local library today
I'm a new phone and broadband customer
phone went live today 12th july and that works fine
I'm waiting for my cable router and hopefully I can physically install it and
run an ethernet cable up to my desktop without any problems
I need a plusnet email address as I didnt create one during signup
Could do with some one who knows how to do this to make a post , thanks
as I've probably lost my previous tiscali/toucan email address.
need to check that ,

Re: new phone and broadband customer

I hope you haven't ordered a cable router as that won't work with ADSL - you need an ADSL router

Re: new phone and broadband customer

No reason at all except it may not support ADSL2+ but that will only be a factor if you are on Pro or Extra

The PN router will be fine with ethernet - just disable the wireless facility.

You can use it, but I wouldn't advise it once you've got the router.
A router separates the WAN (Internet) from your LAN (one or more PCs) and is so called because it routes (requested) packets between your public IP address and the IP address(es) of your computer(s), and thus inherently provides a hardware firewall. A USB modem is 'wide open'.
Routers tend to more reliable, too, and are not reliant on drivers within the PC.
Plus, of course, the general consensus is that to avoid DSLAM problems, eg Target Margin rising, routers are best left on 24/7, which with a USB modem would entail having the PC on 24/7.

Re: new phone and broadband customer

Have a plusnet  telephone line now, it works
I also know I now have plusnet broadband on the ends of my phone line

just informing the plusnet team
that a plusnet parcel  turned up today, 13th July  - opening the box - title of my youtube  video - imao
inside was a jazzy router , complete with installation instructions and a micro filter , a small length of broadband cable (looks like telephone cable )that fits in between the broadband cable and the POTS (plain old telephone system)telephone socket
telephone socket is downstairs , my desktop upstairs , so i'm running a longer piece of  ethernet (patch)cable up the stairs  and into a bedroom
thats the only hard bit , as i will  need to clip the cable as i go
I shall do that part a little later
I'm impressed , but its  now  lunch hour  - so tools  have been put back into my toolbox

Re: new phone and broadband customer

I can see that you are connected fine at the moment from checking the logs on your account so it looks like you've done a good job.
