intermittent internet drop out

I have been experiencing the above on and off for most of this year but over the last couple of months they are getting more frequent, this usually remedied by a router reboot. this week end after another incident I decided to swap my netgear over for the Technicolour router I purchased from plusnet as a spare, this would not set up and connect to the internet although I tried to on two occasions with the Ethernet and the internet lights intermittently flashing. I have tried to contact tech support on the supplied phone number but you are put on hold for ages, with the stupid background music interrupted  by the "sorry to keep you waiting" message, well after 39 mins I gave up and tried three times the next day at various times with the same delay.
  Plusnet I have been a happy customer for 6 years now you need more than ONE member of tech staff manning the phones. still cant get through after 4 days now.
