change of email spam settings

Like many others on plusnet webmail, I have been for the last week surprised to be receiving very obvious spam messages (with headings containing Viagra and the like in clear). Previously I have virtually never had spam, so I decided to follow this up on here.
Hence I learned there has been a 'security breach', and the spam filter was 'no longer working very well'.
I then chose to look at my spam settings, and found to my surprise that it was all turned OFF. Now this could easily have been done by malicious software during the security breach, and I think Plusnet ought to have realised this (if true, of course), and done one of two things - either reset everyone's settings to what they were before the breach, or failing that, at least sent everyone an automatic notification of the possibility, advising to check their settings and reset as required.
I am happy to say I am again clear of spam so far. Could be the result of Plusnet action, but I think not, I think I had to do it myself.....would Plusnet admin care to comment on my point?

I haven't seen an abundance of threads on this and I'm not aware of a general issue unless I've missed something?

I'm not actually aware of any security breach or the spam filter not working well. Could you elaborate on this?

Ahem, I got that from simply searching 'ranks and raves' for 'spam'. Turns out there are lots and lots of tickest on that, including discussions of security breach and poor spam filtering as I remarked.
Starting from the top of the list, I somehow assumed they were all recent. Turns out they are not.....sorry about that. Still a question of how did my spam settings get turned OFF though, about a week ago?

I can't see anything on your account that would have done this. I've been through a few other accounts and they still have the same spam settings as previously so I can't see that it's a general issue.
