Just a quick thanks!
Our ADSL line was successfully upgraded to FTTC today, right first time, without any issues other than slightly lackluster communication.
We requested a product change online through the member portal, and booked an engineer slot for between 1-6pm today.
An email was received a few minutes later confirming this, but as the slight negative... that was the only communication - could do with a bit more. There wasn't any "evidence" anywhere in our account that the switch was on track or that an engineer was going to turn up. Would have been handy if there was some sort of status check or ticket to look at as otherwise, given Openreach, it's a bit of a leap of faith from booking the upgrade, to assuming an engineer will turn up on schedule.
With the switch scheduled for this afternoon, we were also a little concerned to get an email overnight last night confirming our product change had been completed - but it turns out this was actually a good thing, meaning the account had been setup appropriately for Fibre rather than ADSL to remove any potential issues when Openreach switched us over.
Anyway, at around 2pm today our ADSL broadband dropped offline as the Openreach engineer presumably unplugged the line to switch over to FTTC. The connection was down for maybe 10-15 minutes, after which the router simply reconnected using VDSL and synced at 44Mbs down, 7.92Mbs up - comfortably within the estimated speeds. This was probably made a little easier by having swapped over to a BT Home Hub 5 a few weeks back - no need for an Openreach modem.
A few speed tests & some browsing around quickly confirmed everything was indeed working, and a few minutes later a friendly "Superfast fibre" Openreach engineer arrived, glanced at our master socket's faceplate (turns out a previous engineer had swapped ours out for the latest version a while back), asked us if everything was working fine and was on his way - perhaps in the house for a minute or two!
All in all, a simple & easy upgrade - and 44Mb/8Mb makes a very pleasant change from the ADSL MAX we've been living with for the last however many years.. 7Mbs / 0.6Mbs on a good day!
Thanks Plusnet

No worries - thanks Adam
Just glad that the modern world of telecoms has finally arrived in our village. Given that the ADSL Max kit was installed in 2006 & BTw didn't bother to upgrade under the 21C rollout, you could say it was high time for a change!
