Registering Domain names via Plusnet is being removed/abandoned. True or false?

Attempted to register a Domain name via Plusnet tonight.
(Intending to use it for emails & possibly hosting a site.)
Followed the 'instructions' onsite & it didn't work. Was asked to register a CC or Debit card in order to proceed.
Plusnet already has my bank details for account payments via DD, so why do they need more?Huh
(Is it a separate company providing the service I asked myself? After the recent TalkTalk debacle I am wary of giving out my financial details/connections to anybody.)
I thought that was nonsense & then tried to ask  'Jess' a question....
Now I know 'Jess' is not a person, but a robot, despite the female pictured suggesting a human being would respond....
So I call the 'Helpline'.
I wait 20 minutes to speak to a human being, getting more irate the longer I wait.
Only to be told that Plusnet is not offering this service any more. (It's being rundown I was told.... I paraphrase here.)
So why is the Plusnet website not reflecting this, & wasting my time?Huh
If PN is not offering a service why does the site indicate that it does?
Doesn't inspire any confidence in me.
If you can't keep your website up to date I wonder what else is outdated/misleading/wrong?
Anybody there got anything to say?

Re: Registering Domain names via Plusnet is being removed/abandoned. True or false?

Webspace is no longer offered with the current residential products, but a .co.uk domain can be registered for use with email at a cost of £1 per month paid with your subscription. Details are given on the Domain costs and hosting allowances page here..
One-off costs for new products or services cannot be paid by direct debit. A credit card or debit card needs to be registered on the account to cover these.
Please note that I am a customer, not staff but that is the situation as I understand it.

Re: Registering Domain names via Plusnet is being removed/abandoned. True or false?

Thanks, but I thought I knew about the webspace aspects. I was thinking of WordPress for a site, but my own domain name for emails mainly.
No response from any PN staff yet I note: }
Not surprised, judging by the websites misleading & incorrect 'current' info.
Seems to be 2010 there......
If they cannot keep their website up to date, what else are they doing in he background?Huh
I've said it before, but I repeat here, that I'm not impressed by the Plusnet operations.
As opposed to their claims/assertions.
Is this another TalkTalk in disguise?
I need convincing otherwise.

I don't joke.
And it's nearly Monday.
If you don't have anything constructive to say why don't you just do something else?Huh
You not quite a troll, but you getting there.
Internet works 24/7 normally I believe. But PN only works part time, is it?Huh
And that's OK with you?
Looks like it to me.

Why would anyone want to register a domain through Plusnet when there are far cheaper options?

Re: Registering Domain names via Plusnet is being removed/abandoned. True or false?

@bicyclz
The PN team who respond on these forums work Monday to Friday, normal office hours - sometimes there's someone about on a Saturday morning.
These forums are NOT an official support channel.
The internet might work 24/7 but official Plusnet support for residential users does not: telephone support is 7.30am - 10pm every day; chat support is 9am to 9pm every day.
You posted your comment about no Plusnet response 4 1/2 hours after your initial post - it's very, very, very unlikely you'll see a response that quickly even if you posted at the start of a working day.
Finally, I don't think you'll find when a response comes that says much different to spraxyt's advice.
If your posts indicates the level of support you expect, you should not be looking at a budget ISP whose main competitors are Sky and Talk Talk - you should be looking at paying much more by using someone like AAISP or Zen.

Have to support spoon whittler/jelv's point of view -I'm getting free unlimited b/band for a total of 24 months at the maximum speed my line can support - I certainly don't expect to get specialist advice at 10pm on a Sunday for that price !!!!!!

Re: Registering Domain names via Plusnet is being removed/abandoned. True or false?

You can still register domain names, but it would require a card adding for any one-off payments. However you wouldn't be able to use Wordpress as we no longer offer webspace on new accounts I'm afraid.

I'd recommend looking for alternative  provider.
I have use www.1and1.co.uk, fasthosts.co.uk, 123-reg and a few others. It's definitely worth having your hosting somewhere else and cheaper too.  Hosting is best left with a company who specialises in it.
It also means your email is hosted elsewhere which is no bad thing either.
