There are articles on both The Times and Telegraph's websites.
I stand corrected on The Times then, The Telegraph is owned by someone else though, and Sky News has been deafeningly silent on the matter.

Re: Plusnet will give your personal details to ACS Law with not informing you!!

been watching this thread for a long while now... I am caught up in this, and have been sent a letter of claim etc etc.
I cannot put into words how shocked I am at this whole situation.  A few points which concern me most:
Davethir - a bloke off the street / "customer" just like me, took the time & expense to travel to London to be present in a recent NPO hearing, of which PLUSNET are on the receiving end, only to see that NOBODY with any clout from BT/PN could even be ar$ed to turn up.  When will BT/PN start tackling this?  Chief Master Wintergarden (Or whatever he is called) has no option but to grant the NPOs, he has no evidence / resistance to prove that what these firms are doing is wrong, and how they are obtaining their data is flawed!  Surely an ISP is well up on how easy an IP address can be cloned, etc etc etc!!
It appears the email sent from BT to ACS with all our details on was UNENCRYPTED - still waiting on a simple yes or no answer from PN?
This is still happening, thousands of us could still receive letters of claim from other NPOs granted since Nov 09.  (Some people are only just getting them now, from the Nov 09 NPO!)
Talk Talk appear to be doing SO SO SO much more than any other ISP, which astounds me.  One of the reasons I came to plusnet was because their customer service was supposed to be good.
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH, so frustrating.

"It is PlusNet policy never to share your personal details with any other companies or individuals without your permission. "
Taken from the Member Centre, Emailing Settings, "Choose what you would like to hear about from PlusNet".
Plusnet should probably qualify that with a pointer to the T&C as some people could take it at face value...

Yes exactly my point hpsauce, "sort of".
Forgot to say in my post - andrew crossley, this breach of data protection couldn't have happened to a nicer bloke! I hope you have several sleepless nights, just like thousands of innocent Internet users have done over the past year!

Lawyers don't have sleepless nights; how would they do the job?  Crazy

Perhaps they have sleepless nights when they realise they are facing professional and financial ruin, themselves, personally?  Maybe?

And even if Plusnet had sent the excel file encrypted, it would probably still be in the ACS internal email.
It seems from what I have read on other sites that SKY did password protect their spreadsheet, and faxed the password to ACS:law.  But faxes to acs are converted to emails so were also included in the email backup.

TBH I feel sorry for all those teenage lads who'll be having sleepless nights knowing their parents names are on that list. Oh well they can always go back to top shelf magazines and videos and swapping between friends the old fashioned way!

On reading this thread I have cancelled my account with Plusnet (a company I used to recommend to others regularly - several years ago now) and have joined Talk Talk. Simple really.

i don't think you'll be the only one to do this. i think plus.net's behaviour in this debacle is nothing short of disgraceful and incompetent.
they have truly shown a complete disregard for their customers privacy, livelihoods and family lives.
all because they couldn't be bothered fight these absurd actions on behalf of their customers. talktalk's stance shows it can be done.

Re: Plusnet will give your personal details to ACS Law with not informing you!!

I'd like to know if there is any legal position that would allow PN (or any other company for that matter) to refuse to provide the details when presented with a NPO unless a request was granted by a higher power.
The NPO route of finding information is clearly as open to abuse as RIPA is and if companies just fold with each request, who do we, the customers have to rely on for our protection?

Don't be silly.
Plusnet can't be bothered to mount a simple challenge in court.
