Line rental Saver, whats the point?

So wholesale line rental prices are dropping, yet plusnet ( and all the others) are still charging a vast sum for basic line rental.
However if you toook the Line rental saver option you used to be able to save a bit of money.
However now the so called line rental saver offers an insulting discount of a miserly  £18 over 12 months, why bother?

Re: Line rental Saver, whats the point?

And that's the reason I'm not renewing mine LRS, a saving of £1.50 per month for giving PN £185 up front is not worth it.

Re: Line rental Saver, whats the point?

I think a truer comparison would  come from consideration of the annual discount rate required to commute that £204 paid in £17 monthly installments to £186.
You may be surprised!

Re: Line rental Saver, whats the point?

I have renewed mine . Why simple £185. in a savings account will get you what ?. Best ISA might give 2%.  £185 at 2% = £3.70 pa      Nothing like the £18.00 pa saved

... and 20% tax is deducted at source from any income. To be fair though, if you may change provider before mth 11 things are different.

Re: Line rental Saver, whats the point?

only from next April.
It's easier to negotiate a better discount having your line rental with PN so if you're going to do that then taking the LRS is a sensible option.

And which broadband package will you switch to and overall will you be paying less than a combined phone and broadband package?

Re: Line rental Saver, whats the point?

I would leave the broadband with Plusnet and overall there will be a significant saving unless Plusnet come up with a very good deal and the saving - excluding any special deals - would be over £6 per month or £4.50 with LRS as I wouldn't need anytime calls due to their very low call charges

Re: Line rental Saver, whats the point?

yes I did
Cost of Plusnet Line Rental plus Anytime Calls  £16.99 + £6 = £22.99
Cost of Pulse8 £13 + £1.20 (assumed call charges) + £2.50 (Plusnet surcharge) = £16.70
Saving £6.29

Re: Line rental Saver, whats the point?

Remove the £6 'anytime calls' from the Plusnet package and use someone like 'freevoipdeal' (if you're able to use VOIP in place of PSTN tlephone) and a modest discount might make Plusnet line rental the better deal.

VOIP isn't an option as I would have to buy special kit

Re: Line rental Saver, whats the point?

Still worth doing the LRS deal for me because I have the "legacy" deal with inclusive Eve/weekend calls Wink
