Re: Lack of support from Plusnet

Ouch, the RScorr errors up somewhat since last night (interleaving working quite hard), as long as that's not a regular event, at least there's no high level on the other errors. Otherwise looks OK.

Re: Lack of support from Plusnet

Hi Jack,
whilst the critical errors remain low and whilst I haven't done the sums on the last 24hrs in relation to traffic, the number of RScorr errors has rocketed up and is of some concern, this must be affecting throughput. Have things seemed sluggish at all?
What's causing this is the question, have you been doing anything more in the last day or so that you don't normally eg a lot more streaming or whatever? Have you installed anything the last couple of days? Have you noticed anything unusual?

Re: Lack of support from Plusnet

Hi Chris,
No problems I've noticed, Plusnet's site is sluggish but it always is. My usage has been minimal this week so no problems there. I did install a security package  (Trusteer Rapport) as recommended by my Bank, could this be the reason for the errors?, Jack.

Re: Lack of support from Plusnet

What I could do is uninstall it for a while and see what happens, what do you think.
I've just checked the website and it lists incompatable security software none of which
I use.

Re: Lack of support from Plusnet

Hi Everyone..
Phew!!
What a long thread.
I would like to make two points.
Firstly given the method of delivery, it's amazing that we get any connection at all, imagine having an aerial that was two miles long it would pick up everything.
That's what ADSL is broadband via a long aerial  through trail and error I have found that ipods and external usb drives disrupting my connection.
I've been on the phone to my friend who had a problem transferring music from their ipod to thier PC and I could hear the interference on the phone line while the ipod was on.
My second point is I had very similar issue with SNR at 20db with upload speed being faster than download.
Plusnet(mainly Jamesh) tried everything interleaving on, off and auto I think this totally sent DLM nuts
to cut a long story short I just wanted the SNR set at 6db after two weeks everything settled down my snr is now and average of 3.7db
without snr reset or BT engineers proding and poking around.
I have a question would a fixed snr improve the stability of ADSL Max/21CN?

Re: Lack of support from Plusnet

Hi Jack,
well that's much better than it was, the RScorr rate has not proportionally increased at an excessive rate compared to last night, so hopefully it was just a one off - I don't like unexplicable events.
@ctech500
Well Hi there. So it sounds like you were quite lucky then, depending on what caused your issue and how it got fixed. I thought James did get your Target reset after. If you're really hanging on there with an average of 3.7dB (not knowing the origins of that figure) then you've got one of the few routers that can do it with occasional very low margins.
As far as fixed snr goes, well that's just not part of ADSL1 because it would imply some sort of SRA as I think you know. So the short quick answer for ADSL1 is no, the best you can do with ADSL1 is a bit of messing with bit buckets. My knowledge of ADSL2+ is very limited, but I understood that was the idea, maintaining a more constant SNRM and having SRA of sync speeds. Now I heard an unsubstantiated rumour the other day about SRA which I do not intend repeating here as it is unsubstantiated and repetition only causes Urban Myths, apart from which we're getting a bit off topic. When I've got a bit of time I'll look into it further. (No direct interest as chances of getting it here in the forseeable future is zilch).
Cheers.
Edit: Hi Jack, just seen the second set, still looks ok to me.

Re: Lack of support from Plusnet

Keep the good news coming, every post makes me see and end is coming at last.
Well here's the last of the day, Jack.
Just got an update from Fibrecity, they are starting laying cables at a rate of 2000 a day and say that in 2010 it will be completed.
