Re: Internet Freezes

It's a "me too" issue.
I expect Plusnet will blame the cricket. Tongue

Re: Internet Freezes

Helpful as usual Jeremy.
I suspect the reason that your speed is only around 1Mbps is that either (a) the BT IP Profile or (b) the Plusnet IP Profile is  currently set to a lower level.  You can verify this by:
a)  Running a  BT Speedtest, and then checking out the part on completion that mentions your IP Profile
b)  Visiting the Plusnet page which shows their copy here
B.

Re: Internet Freezes

I am always helpful Smiley
Speeds appear to have increased nearer to the profile in the last few hours
a) The BT speed test does not run.
b) PN profile is 5.5Mbps
c) The Plusnet speed test gives some kind of DNS(?) error.

Re: Internet Freezes

You are always helpful CoEvil Smiley
The BT speedtest would not run for me either, but internet frog works well
The plusnet page for profile returned this.
Estimated line speed:
Not recorded (service activated before we introduced estimates).
Current line speed:
1000

So we may well be getting closer to finding the problem and a solution. (so long as PN don't expect me to agree to a 12/18 month contract)
I did mention to the engineer that I had no connection freezes until I switched phone service to PN, his opinion was that it may not be so much of a coincidence as I assumed. Wink

Re: Internet Freezes

Well - it appears that my huge loss of speed was only temporary Smiley
Speed appears to almost back up to normal.
The BT speedtester is working again.
The PN one appears a bit fussy - it brings up a link of
http://www.mybroadbandspeed.co.uk/
which fails
If I remove the trailing /, it says,

The license for this speedtest is invalid or missing

Re: Internet Freezes

Opened the BT speedtester on Chrome (it won't work on Opera) put in the phone number and username...it says incorrect.

Re: Internet Freezes

Message from the bods says "The initial part of your fault has been resolved."
Wonder where the problem was then, It was proven not to be in my pc, router, filters/sockets, phone line or exchange. To resolve a problem there had to be one...so where was it?

Re: Internet Freezes

Hi Diamond,
From what you've said here, it sounds like there's a chance that either replacing the master socket fixed the issue, or they identified a problem at the exchange that they didn't tell you about Smiley

Re: Internet Freezes

If you hold onto your current connection speeds, your profile should rise from 1500 to 3000Kbps, which I would expect to give in the region of 2500Kbps throughput.

Re: Internet Freezes

Registered I.4mbps this morning, which is a bit better than the 0.9 I had been getting, but it's still lower than the 1.6 that I had when I first came to PN. Its a nice thought but somehow I think  2.5 is a bit optimistic

Re: Internet Freezes

The frogtest http://www.internetfrog.com/ has a tendency to return results lower than better known speedtests.
The Plusnet speedtest is consistent with several others see (for instance) http://community.plus.net/forum/index.php/topic,78905.0.html
