IP address registered in US

Last night I did some gateway hopping to try and escape the peak time slowdown only to discover this morning that my VOIP phone connection was broken.
It appears the IP I moved to is registered as being in the US which make my VOIP need the full international code preceding a phone number.

One silly problem after another.  Undecided

I think the 146.198-200 blocks of IP addresses are particularly difficult because they were originally assigned to ARIN rather than RIPE, and it doesn't appear to be easily possible to transfer them, nor even get rid of the INFONET details. The 146.198. block is the most recent of those to be brought into use.

Re: IP address registered in US

Thanks ejs, so this issue has existed for 11 months now!  Unbelievable!  Angry
In this case it was only the DB-IP database showing as US, other databases showed the IP as being UK.
Don't know about the rest of the block but if they're all the same it should be easy enough to get it corrected in the DB-IP database.

Re: IP address registered in US

Another US registered IP address.
This time it's ok in the dbip data base, it's the IP2Location data base showing it as registered in the US.

IP Address 146.199.11.163

Latitude & Longitude 33.922235, -118.405515 (33°55'20"N  118°24'20"W)

Can someone at Plusnet please look in to getting these IP's registered properly as being based in the UK.

Re: IP address registered in US

These IPs have had the details updated, but may still show on some lookups as US ones.
What issues are arising from this showing as a US address?

Thanks Jelv, completely missed that!
@npr Can you let us know the VoIP provider so we can look into it.

Re: IP address registered in US

Hi Chris, thanks for picking this up.
voip provider is voipdiscount.com which is one of the betamax provider.
In my previous posts I stated the two IP data bases which hold the outdated info, is it not those who need to be contacted with your up to date IP list.
ie:
For IP range 146.99.. it's http://www.ip2location.com who thinks it's registered to US, othere data bases are ok
For IP range 146.98.. it's  https://db-ip.com/ who thinks it's registered to US, other data bases are ok.

Yes, if you're confident that these are the services your VoIP provider is using for geo-location.
It's odd that each of them only seems to have issues with a single range (rather than all of them). I've contacted both anyway, so hopefully it'll be sorted before too long.
It's probably worth a mod merging these posts with the main thread.

No I'm not confident, I've just matched up those two data bases as holding the wrong location.
This is the location checker I used to identify the above: https://www.iplocation.net/
Just noticed a typo in those two IP addresses -- sorry
Should be 146.199.x.x and 146.198.x.x

Fair enough, I'll drop VoipDiscount a message as well then.

Don't worry, I didn't make the same mistake when contacting the geo-location providers Cool

You must have younger eyes.  Smiley
This is really causing me some trouble whenever I'm on either of those IP ranges, and it's happening surprisingly often. I've just had to make 3 gateway hops to get on a uk IP.
Until this gets sorted, is there a chance of getting a temporary static (UK) ip address, it's certainly not something I want permanently otherwise I would order one.

Just order it through your Member Centre. It's a one-off £5, and comes into play as soon as you disconnect and reconnect your PPP session. Not like the ones that charge per month :).

It shouldn't be too difficult to get on an IP outside of the two affected ranges.
ip2location have replied advising that they'll get things updated. Might take them a few weeks though.
