Re: Does Plusnet have ANY happy customers

I see what you're saying but I just think using a better alternative, that doesn't cost you any more makes more sense if it's that bad.

But that's just me, as using ISP supplied email is something I'd never even consider.

Re: Does Plusnet have ANY happy customers

My big stumbling block, for over 30 years of having the internet, is that I've never used anything other than the ISP-provided email -it's an integral and vital part of the service being paid for, and when it goes wrong I'm really angry.  Last week, following a suggestion made a few posts back on this thread I tried downloading Thunderbird, but got all confused when Mozilla loaded and I didn't know how to answer the various questions it started asking, e.g. `do you wish to retain your existing e-mail address?'  What are the consequences of saying `yes' to that I wondered, and being a coward I closed the screen down and uninstalled Mozilla.

My wife uses Gmail, but has had quite a few issues (not being able to transmit emails with large attachments, contacts list disappearing, sent and received mails all mixed up together.......etc,)  so I'm not over keen on that.  Also I have got used to my PN email address and don't want to change it.  I guess someone will now tell me that I don't have to, but I haven't the technical savvy to know how to do that.

Re: Does Plusnet have ANY happy customers

I think email was debated before.

Email is not mentioned in any of Plusnet's packages (maybe suggesting it's legacy or a 'nice extra to have') & not all ISPs provide an email service with the common use of Gmail & Hotmail amongst home users.

Re: Does Plusnet have ANY happy customers

I agree, and especially when your ISP might rat on you and sell your email account to some third rate outfit forcing you to spend weeks changing your email address setting with every organisation you've ever joined or subscribed to as Virgin did to me with TalkTalk.  Virgin right now digging their cable trench past my front door.  Look forward to telling them to get lost when they come knocking offering me a connection.

Re: Does Plusnet have ANY happy customers

And you don't think Gmail do alsorts of dastardly things with your address???

They offer a help guide and how to set up Pnet email

Help with your Plusnet email

That sounds like it says its included.

I have to say that I have just been looking for a new car and do you know it does not say that it runs. Parhaps I should not expect it to do so therefore.

Re: Does Plusnet have ANY happy customers

@Scooterman999 I don't really have those issues with Gmail, but there is an option to turn off conversational view in the settings, as I also hate they way it groups messages together.

And yes I think you can keep your old email, but I've no idea how haha Wink

Re: Does Plusnet have ANY happy customers

Yes.  It's just a question of figuring out how to change the settings.  I'm quite happy with gmail. Yes I know thet are probably farming my traffic patterns and selling the information, but so does every browsing and social media company.  There's no point in avoiding gmail for that reason then using google, facebook, twitter etc.

Re: Does Plusnet have ANY happy customers

@DC1  When I signed up online over a year ago the advice on this forum was to call PN's sales line the next day and check that the order was progressing, which I did and it was.

@Scooterman999  Over 30 years on the internet?  You've been online since 1986?  I remember about 1989 we had a computer (complete with 5 1/4 inch floppy disk) hooked up to a phone line where we could access information from the computer of another company that was contracted to do some work for us, but no internet as such.

When I migrated to PN I changed from my previous ISP's email service to gmail and installed Mozilla Thunderbird without any difficulty.  I also set it up to download emails from my old email service as long as it lasts.  There is a separate inbox and sent mail box as well as an all mail box, and conversation view isn't even the default.

Re: Does Plusnet have ANY happy customers

Good morning,

Yes there will be some i guess but if one really wants to read only positive reviews of plusnet then i'd suggest checking out all of the posts penned in these forums by the moderators because they rarely seem to have a bad word to say about plusnet.

Re: Does Plusnet have ANY happy customers

@Jonpe Sorry Jonpe, my memory / arithmetic about length of time on the internet was faulty.  I think we too had an Amstrad with 5 1/4 floppies in 1986 and progressed to a `proper' Olivetti in 1990, and not too long afterwards installed a second phone line for dial-up access to AOL.

Regarding Mozilla Thunderbird - thanks for your comments about that. Maybe I will give it another go.

Re: Does Plusnet have ANY happy customers

Unhappy customers might be the only people who come on here and say bad things and people who have not had issues just keep away, except the moderators, which might account for itwashimnotme's comment.

Problem for me is that there used to be good posts on here, but that was when Pnet was excellent. In fact I have posted them myself.

Indeed I have one of my referrals that is a close relative and if you do something for them you have a job for life looking after what you have done. But when Pnet were brilliant I was willing to recommend them, now I would not recommend them to my worst enemy.

It is many of those long standing, they have to be longstanding to remember a brilliant Pnet, who are now leaving and posting they are unhappy, and that should be the most worrying thing about this ongoing debacle of unhappy customers. That is unless Pnet really are trawling for the bottom, of customers who leave as soon as they can with Pnet having their fingers crossed hoping they don't notice the bad service and dreadful customer nonservices and perhaps stay.

Maybe that is their instructions from the almighty BT.

Re: Does Plusnet have ANY happy customers

Update:  Trouble is no one seems to have told Plusnet's electronic ticket system that the problem has been solved so it's just sent me two email messages and two text messages saying its still trying to solve it.  All are no-reply messages so I can't just respond telling it to stop.  I shudder to think what would happen if I opened a NEW ticket telling it to top, and frankly I just can't be bothered telephoning or chat-lining them again to tell human beings to tell their machine to stop, so I'll just let it go on chuntering and hope it doesn't screw anything up.  What is clear is that Plusnet's electronic ticket system is a total shambles and should be scrapped.  Meanwhile I used the chat line to ask another technical question (about whether I will be able to change the SSID and password of my Plusnet router when I install it) and got a swift, clear answer (No).  SO the chat line's still looking good to me.

Re: Does Plusnet have ANY happy customers

The are trying to scrap it. That is one of the problems. If you had been here 3 years ago you would have thought it the bees knees. One could ask a question late at night and get a written answer the following day.Just read up the threads f complaints when they only allowed ticket questions for a limited number of issues. See how long term customers reacted to taking away what was an excellent system.

Try the chat lines at 11pm and wait on the phone for 30 minutes as now. Also wait until you have a question they will not touch on the chat lines and start ringing, you might change your mind.
