I pay £6.49 per month but only get 10 gig allowance, the advert is for unlimited, maybe PlusNet should automatically put me up to unlimited

If you want to you can upgrade to Unlimited yourself using the Member Centre Product Upgrade link. However that will cost £9.99 per month (assuming line rental is with Plusnet) and involve a 12 month contract.
Alternatively give the COT a ring and see what they can offer.

@BryanP  they can't automatically put you up as it's a different contract which you need to agree to. So either log in to your account and upgrade or call.

The £2-99 is a headline rate. I think that it is £2-99 for 9 months and £9-99 for the next 9 months. This averages out at £6-49 over the 18 month contract as I can't see anyone being allowed to leave without penalty.

Which s what many existing users on the basic package are paying now, so where's the beef?

Not sure what you mean? All I'm doing is pointing out that the deal is not as good as it first appears especially compared with other ISPs who have been sending me letters promoting their own 1/2 price offers. I looked on the web site and had to go to the legal bit to find out that it was an 18 month contract as I wrongly assumed it was 12 months. I guess by the basic package you mean Value which I'm on although I am changing at next billing date.

Re: £2.99 for Unlimited for new customers

TBH I find the whole site very confusing and have no idea what I would have to if I were looking as a new Mkt 1 customer as everything is geared to advertising the lowest price - I know that's normal practice but I don't think the increase in Mkt 1 pricing is clear enough especially as it's normally twice the price. There are far too many caveats to read in the 'small print' for anything to be clear to me.
I dare say tho' it may just me thats dim!!! Huh

@Salmo,
Sorry, my "What's the beef?" was not addressed to you, but to other posters on here, suggesting that new users are paying markedly less than existing ones.  I think you make a good point, the average cost over 18 months to new users cited in your post is not that different to what many existing users are paying presently.  Though a subsequent poster points out that Value is 10G and the offer is unlimited, I suspect that the majority of unlimited users consume less than 10G, thus in reality they are paying the similar for a similar service.

Superusers are not staff, but they do have a direct line of communication into the business in order to raise issues, concerns and feedback from the community.

@townman Far from less than 10gig, on demand TV programs and gaming constitutes my bandwidth per month, it's best not to suspect only deal with black and white figures.  PN have been this way for a while now and I for one am tired of it.  Then need to sweeten the pot to get new users as they are loosing us that have been with them for years and those that stay are asked to pay for the difference.
Unless big changes happen I will be finding a new home for my phone line and DSL in January.
