Unlimited all the way

Plusnet You’ve probably noticed that on the 10th June we updated our products so that they are all now Unlimited. Everyone signing up for a residential broadband product from the 10th June no longer has to worry about usage allowances. With no usage limits you don’t need to worry about streaming your favourite TV show or grabbing the latest film or album from iTunes. Combine this together with our traffic management expertise and you can use your connection to its full potential. Andy Baker, CEO of Plusnet said:

“We have seen that our average customer has more than doubled the amount of bandwidth they are using in the last year.  This is because of the increasing number of devices in any household and the continued growth in streaming media, particularly Netflix and YouTube. “We expect average usage to rise by almost 50% within the next six months and double again within two years and we believe unlimited packages give our customers the flexibility they will need for the growing dependencies on bandwidth.”

Plusnet Unlimited starts from just £9.991 per month plus line rental (reduced to £3.492 for the first 12 months plus line rental) for speeds up to 16Mbps while those wanting our up to 38Mbps package can take this from just £14.991 a month plus line rental. If you want even more speed you can take our up to 76Mpbs Unlimited Fibre Extra for £19.991 a month plus line rental (reduced to just £9.993 a month for 6 months plus line rental , £19.991 a month plus line rental thereafter). The new products are available over on the Plusnet website and existing customers can see what’s available to them online.   1 Where you live in a low cost area and take Plusnet line rental at £15.95 per month. Full details available at www.plus.net 2 Unlimited broadband from £3.49 a month for the first 12 months then £9.99 a month when you take line rental – 12 month contract. Offer available until 8th July 2014 to new customers only. 3 Where you live in a low cost area, Unlimited Fibre broadband from £9.99 a month for the first 6 months then £19.99 a month when you take line rental - 18 month contract. Will take a look thanks. Shame I started with PN on 9th May & not 10th June, as only a month later could have gone unlimited. Will have to look into this further. Thanks for the info.

I keep missing these grand announcements because I don't visit the main page of the website that often. Would it be too difficult to send out emails when things like this happen? As a basic "Essentials" package customer - who switched to a contract after the first year of being with you, because we were happy with what we had - do we now face being forced to pay an extra £4 when our contract ends because Plusnet have decided this for us? Seems a tad arrogant that there wasn't (as far as we saw) a lot of discussion of this beforehand. Or a mailshot. We work to a strict Budget here and are unlikely to be able to hang around if we're going to be squeezed any more!

In the old days - by the time I reached the end of this sort of contract - I'd expect the company to come along and say "Thanks for being a great customer have unlimited broadband for the £5.99 you're paying at the moment. I certainly wouldn't expect to pay more. Once upon a time - the more popular something became - the cheaper it became. Not any more. Now just an excuse for milking even more money out of people! (Or consulting them in the first place.)

Why only new customers being given unlimited? - does this show it's no good staying with one provider best to do as in other services compare and switch.

I have been a customer of PN for a number of years but cannot get the bargains that a new customer gets even after the initial period. At present I am considering my alternatives

Sorry for any inconvenience or confusion caused. The new products are available to existing customers, however, existing customers would need to speak to our Customer Options team to discuss any offers that may be available to them. Ado16, this means that your package won't change unless you specifically ask for it to be changed to Unlimited. Our "old" packages are still active and if you were on Essentials before the products changed you will remain on Essentials.

I have also been a customer of Plusnet for years and I have to say the new pricing scheme is pretty unattractive for someone who lives in a Market 1 area and doesn't use the internet much. Unlimited does not interest me and 10GB or less daytime use is ample however the new price structure does not cater for this and just isn't competitive. I have spoken to customer services and they seem unable to offer anything different to what is on the website....
