librivox Two weeks ago, we asked you all if you fancied writing a blog for us, with the best one being published here and the author receiving 6 months' free Spotify subscription. Thanks to all of you who sent in an entry since then - it's been great to read through some of the ideas you've been talking about! There can only be one winner though, and we're pleased to announce that person is Maria MacCallum, for telling us all about Librivox. So without further ado, here's Maria's entry... Libravox - Acoustical liberation of books in the public domain Maria MacCallum My latest and best ever find on the internet is Libravox. I found it as an Android app for my phone but they are also available to all on the web. They describe themselves as: 'acoustical liberation of books in the public domain'. In a nutshell, free audio books! The books are all from the public domain, read by volunteers, and the list is ever growing. dracula I love listening to audio-books when I can't sleep, or when I have a long drive. At the moment I'm working my way through all the Sherlock Holmes books, which I adore. Some of the recordings are better than others, and there's one story where I laughed the whole way through at this poor American man trying to pronounce our strange English street names. This is one of the best finds ever, it will keep me amused for years to come, they have all the classics. I've downloaded some childrens books too to keep my boys happy on long car drives. I hope you all love it as much as I do! Maz

John Milton - Paradise Lost - Not recommended by me due to uninterested reader with poor Mic. POP - POP - POP - jeez is there no quality control ? John Milton - Paradise Regained - Nasty monotonous nasal American female may as well be reading an recipe for something I don't like (for something she doesn't like either). Jules Verne - Around the World In Eighty Days - MONSTER hum and various frequency whistles - unlistenable. Conclusion - Libravox - World worthy classics butchered by unlistenable performances. No, I can't do better but I'm not saying I can ... Gutted. I was so expectant and so disappointed. I wanted to have Jules Verne read to me in my sleepy hours... Giving something away for free still requires some level of quality control SURELY. Apologies to the readers, you've put some serious time in, in the name of getting it out there, but it's just not right. Upset. Jem

Brilliant website, thanks for sharing. So far listened to just one book, but it was well up to professional standard and opens up a world of humour from an author I had never heard of. Well done!
