Emmerdale Star joins Plusnet to award local charity with £5,000

alzheimers Over the last year or so, you may recall that we've blogged about various events that we've participated in to help raise money for the Alzheimer's Society? Well a few weeks ago, ex-Emmerdale beauty, Roxanne Pallett was joined by a handful of 'Plusnetters' to award the Alzheimer’s Society with the fruit of the year's labours, which came to a not unimpressive £5,252! The money has been raised throughout the course of the last 12 months after we named the Alzheimer’s Society our charity of choice for 2010-2011. Throughout the course of the year, staff at our offices in Sheffield have been getting involved in a number of fund-raising activities, from book sales, cake baking, fancy dress and quiz nights to a cricket auction involving England team memorabilia and a six-man team being sponsored to run the York 10K. Singer and actress, Roxanne - who worked with us for the launch of our 'Plusnet Fibre' product - joined some of us as we met with people at Ryefield Lodge in Chapeltown.  Ryefield Lodge supports younger people, under the age of 65 who are affected by dementia and is just one of the local services that will benefit from the money raised by Plusnet. Roxanne said: “It’s been fantastic to be involved with Plusnet this year and come to Ryefield Lodge this week to meet with some of the wonderful people who will benefit from the great work of the Alzheimer’s Society.” And Jamie, our CEO, was full of praise for all of us here at Plusnet Towers: “Our staff have really gone beyond the call of duty this year to raise funds for the Alzheimer’s Society. We have learnt a great deal about the work of the charity locally, both in Sheffield and around Yorkshire and are delighted to be handing over this money for them to continue their great work.” Simon Wallace, Area Fundraising Manager for Yorkshire and Humber commented: “Dementia is now recognised as the biggest social and healthcare challenge of our generation so, it's fantastic that an organisation like Plusnet has raised vital funds to help support our work." So well done to all involved, and let's hope we can raise a similar amount for our choice of charity for 2011/2012! Plusnet-Ryefield Lodge 1 cropped_small About Alzheimer’s:
