err_connection_reset on SOME websites only, All PCs, All Browsers

Hi,

Been running my Zyxel VMG8924-B10A VDSL router fine without issue with Plusnet FTTC for some time.

Last 2 days something has gone wrong, for certain websites only (eg, bbc, ebay) I will lose access and Chrome reports err_connection_reset 101 - other browsers such as IE and Edge also report similar failure as do other computers via ethernet and mobiles via wifi.

So, it's not a computer, browser or wifi/ethernet specific issue.

If I reboot the router everything returns to normal for a few hours then it will fail again in a similar way.

Note I can both ping and traceroute to the affected websites when the fault occurs, it seems purely a http/https type issue...

I factory reset via the GUI and reloaded my backup config file afterwards but the issue remains.


Anyone come across anything like this before ?  I'd like to say the router is failing but the nature of the fault doesn't seem like a hardware problem.

My only thought at the moment is a possible MTU issue but the router is set at 1492 and has never been changed so unless something further down the chain like plusnet routers doesn't like the packets?

This sort of problem is why we always use the router / modem supplied by our ISP, in this case Plusnet.

I've tried different MTUs on the router but no difference.

Think I'll look for a different combined VDSL/router combo.
