draytek 2762 problems

hi

i'm trying to set up a draytek vigor 2762 - the kids got fed up with my old archer vr900 dropping the internet connection.

i'm on johnlewis broadband (and have been for years)

i've checked that my username and password are correct by logging into the johnlewis broadband site - plusnet tech support confirmed that it'll be the same for the router.

the router firmware is the latest available - november 2019 - 3.9.2

  • multi-pvc channel is set to 1
  • vpi 0
  • vci 38
  • llc/snap
  • PPPoA
  • multimode
  • wan connection: ppp detect
  • MTU 1520 (i've tried 1480 and 1400)
  • pap/chap authN
  • dynamic ip
  • mac address of router

any ideas?

Are you adding @john-lewis.com with no spaces to your user name?

Re: draytek 2762 problems

Is it fibre (fttc) or adsl broadband ?

@Baldrick1 thanks for replying so quickly...

yes, absolutely - i've got the vr900 next to it, and i've copied the settings directly from that. swap the adsl cable between the two and the vr900 works fine (apart from the dropouts)

Re: draytek 2762 problems

@MisterW it's POTS ADSL,

i can see the fibre coming down the telegraph pole, to but it's copper from there. they put fibre overhead cables in a couple of months ago, but i didn't have to make any changes to the router then. and nothing has got any faster, neither.

Re: draytek 2762 problems

@ishmaelwhale  in that caee its probably the multiplex setting thats wrong.

You have it set to llc/ snap it should be vc-mux

TBH unless the vr900 was faulty I dont think youre going to see any improvement in dropouts. The vr900 has a pretty good modem so any dropouts are likely to be being caused by external/wiring faults
