Zyxel VMG1312-B10D router - slow speeds with Plusnet Fibre

Hi, I have Plusnet Unlimited Fibre, which as a theoretical maximum speed of 36mbps.

I'm 2km from a new digital exchange and 1km from the cabinet. However, BT tell me it's a copper line from the cabinet to my house (due to be upgraded to fibre in '2-3 years' time). Therefore I cannot expect the maximum 36 mbps.

Using the Plusnet Hub One router, I get a reasonably stable 25Mbps both at the BT Master socket and at my wired PC connection.

However, when I swap out the Hub One for the Zyxel router (with latest firmware), the maximum speed achievable is only 18Mbps.

Can anyone explain this 7Mbps drop when using what I'm told is the superior Zyxel router?

Speedtests and Zyxel settings attached.

Many thanks in advance

@TK999  welcome to the forum.

If I read the spec right it's a single band router suggesting it's either an economy model or the design is long in the tooth. It's possible that the performance is inferior to the Hub One when connected to your long line.

Hhmmm - ok, its a brand new router but as you say probably not a particularly recent model.

Still surprised it's 'losing' 7Mbps along the way though...

All the best, Tim
