WiFi stops transmitting

This has been happening for a good few months now, and I'm getting frustrated with my customer service experience, so I'm here.

At least once a day, often more than once, our wifi network becomes undetectable. This is fixed by restarting the router, but we shouldn't have to be restarting the router up to 4 times a day.

- The router is plugged in alone, not behind or near any other electrical equipment

- We don't have any outside light, fairy lights, central heating that coincides with disconnection, microwave, fish tank etc.

- We live in a studio flat, and the problem occurs even if you are literally on top of the router with your device, so not a range issue

- No devices are plugged into the ethernet, because we have no devices that can do this

- I have already tried separating the 2.4ghz and 5ghz

- I have tried choosing different particular channels

- I have deactivated 2.4ghz altogether

- Plusnet sent me a replacement hub

- BT engineer visited and replaced old cabling and installed a new wall socket with filter built in, so these bits are up to date

Plusnet customer services basically told me it is in the terms and conditions that wifi is not guaranteed. I am concerned as to what could be happening, because there appears to be activity in the event log AFTER all our devices get disconnected from the wifi and the network disappears. I will paste an edited example below:

This is an endless list repeating for 3-4 hours this evening:

22:37:39, 04 Feb. ath10: STA a4:5e:60:c9:f0:c1 IEEE 802.11: Client disassociated

22:37:39, 04 Feb. ath10: STA a4:5e:60:c9:f0:c1 IEEE 802.11: WiFi registration failed

22:28:02, 04 Feb. ath10: STA a4:5e:60:c9:f0:c1 IEEE 802.11: Client associated

22:27:39, 04 Feb. ath10: STA a4:5e:60:c9:f0:c1 IEEE 802.11: Client disassociated

22:27:39, 04 Feb. ath10: STA a4:5e:60:c9:f0:c1 IEEE 802.11: WiFi registration failed

22:18:03, 04 Feb. ath10: STA a4:5e:60:c9:f0:c1 IEEE 802.11: Client associated

22:17:39, 04 Feb. ath10: STA a4:5e:60:c9:f0:c1 IEEE 802.11: Client disassociated

22:17:39, 04 Feb. ath10: STA a4:5e:60:c9:f0:c1 IEEE 802.11: WiFi registration failed

22:08:06, 04 Feb. ath10: STA a4:5e:60:c9:f0:c1 IEEE 802.11: Client associated

22:07:39, 04 Feb. ath10: STA a4:5e:60:c9:f0:c1 IEEE 802.11: Client disassociated

22:07:39, 04 Feb. ath10: STA a4:5e:60:c9:f0:c1 IEEE 802.11: WiFi registration failed

And while nothing is connected or able to detect our wifi:

00:19:26, 05 Feb. OUT: BLOCK [65] First packet is Invalid (Packet not in tcp window: TCP [192.168.1.74]:50810->[54.192.8.241]:443 on ppp3)

00:19:04, 05 Feb. OUT: BLOCK [65] First packet is Invalid (Packet not in tcp window: TCP [192.168.1.74]:48195->[52.50.124.229]:443 on ppp3)

00:19:03, 05 Feb. OUT: BLOCK [65] First packet is Invalid (Packet not in tcp window: TCP [192.168.1.74]:42057->[18.153.6.8]:443 on ppp3)

00:18:06, 05 Feb. IN: BLOCK [16] Remote administration (TCP [165.16.37.190]:40754->[87.114.154.101]:8080 on ppp3)

00:07:03, 05 Feb. IN: BLOCK [16] Remote administration (TCP [218.92.1.178]:34793->[87.114.154.101]:22 on ppp3)

00:06:12, 05 Feb. IN: BLOCK [16] Remote administration (TCP [88.200.214.134]:31640->[87.114.154.101]:22 on ppp3)

What could this all mean?

Another strange thing I've noticed is often (but not every time), when the wifi network disappears, our smart tv switches itself on. I have been reassured this has nothing to do with the router, but it seems to be a frequent coincidence.

Note: I have tried unplugging the smart tv and the wifi problems still occur, so it is not the TV causing the issue.

If anyone has any ideas, they would be most welcome. I've seen some posts about getting a BT home hub but want to exhaust other possibilities before being left out of pocket.

Re: WiFi stops transmitting

Hi @Ray_, the first set of logs seems to indicate a single device is failing to connect to the WiFi.

I believe the second set is the firewall blocking an external connection.

I have a feeling this may be related to the firmware your router is currently on, so I've raised a request with our products team to see if we can get that updated sooner rather than later.

I hope this helps.

Re: WiFi stops transmitting

Hi Ray_, you' might notice the router resetting itself when the upgrade completes. I'll keep checking for updates on our side though and will let you know when it's been confirmed that the update has been pushed through.
