When will router bug for 5g be fixed ?

Hi

Dose anyone know when the bug will be fixed that prevents you having the same ssid on 2.4ghz and 5ghz?
I know it's not my end as I have had the same ssid for 3 years and 2 different companies and it been fine.
But plusnet router gives a error of wrong password on 5g after a day or so unless you split them up.

It just not on!

As far as I'm aware this is by design and not particularly a bug.

If the SSID was the same for both the 2.4GHz and 5GHz frequencies it'd be difficult to differentiate between them.

Let me know if I've misunderstood you or got something wrong.

What router are we talking about here? The Hub One? If so, the SSID's for the two radios are the same by default, and there's no acknowledged problem I'm aware of that results in the symptoms you've described

Having the same ssid for 2.4 and 5g is part of the agreed wifi standards. Equipment using 5g will not get confused by the ssid with the same name in 2.4g and equipment that can only use 2.4g made before the standard can't see the 5g band so also will not get confused!

But for some unknown reason having the same ssid on plusnet router is not possible as it crashes the 5g.

How long have you suffered this problem and when was the last time you tried merging the SSIDs? There was a software update pushed to your device around the middle of last week that may have helped the situation?

The latest plusnet router.

This forum and the Web is littered with people who have the same problem there 5g will not work. Allway the advice is split the ssid.

I know for a fact its the router as I had the same ssid with bt and now tv both working fine.

I have been with plusnet for about 2 weeks.
And started about 24hr after setting up.
And I have tried reseting factory reset.
The lot!
When your stuck at work till late doing 12h days and your family is calling from home angry because they can't watch TV or us tablets it not fun!

I had them merged till Thursday when I finally gave up.

It would be useful to know what devices you have on your network in which case, and a little more detail about how the problem presents itself?

Whilst there's a known wi-fi issue affecting the firmware your router shipped with (different to the one you describe mind you), there's no acknowledged issue with the update that was applied midweek

If there is some inherent issue, then I'm very keen to get to the bottom of it!

2 tables both only 2.4g
2 phones dual band
Google mini dual band
Google home hub dual band
Google chromecast only 2.4g
3 wifi plugs only 2.4g
Now tv box 2.4g
Now tv plus box dual band

I have had 2 different out comes from the problem of the last few weeks first.

After reset all will work fine for a while not sure how long not timed prob about 24hr then.

5g says authentication error when you try and connect and when you check what is connected there is nothing on 5g.

Second. The both 2.4g and 5g do the same as above.

@masson125 if you still have the bt router or the nowtv one, you can use those (assuming they aren't locked down) and are vdsl routers.

As others have said, you can have the same ssid for both 2.4ghz and 5ghz - and on the 2.4ghz (different channels) as this allows roaming accross a larger area.

Don't shorten Ghz to G, as thats typically used for mobile transmission generations which is normally speed dependant. When you initally said 5G, i thought, "theres no commerical uk mobile phone with 5g..."

You have checked you have the same password and encryption method set, as the 2.5ghz radio ?

When I had them with the same ssid I had the box check to have the same settings! As it worked and then stopped I am sure I have the correct password and encryption settings.
