WIFI is connected on all devices but keeps dropping daily

We are connected to our Plusnet router on all devices and it works fine at fast speed, but we are having to reboot the router almost every day due to the connection dropping all too frequently. Next to the WIFI bars symbol on computers or mobiles it shows that it is connected to Plusnet but sometimes has an exclamation mark next to it and says 'No Internet' and we are unable to browse the web. This sometimes happens on single devices but also sometimes happens to all those connected. (This is only happening on our Plusnet router, this has never happened on any other router, so it's definitely not a problem with ALL our devices).

I have tried turning off and on WIFI on the affected devices, forgetting the network and reconnecting, and restarting the device, all without success. The only thing that works is rebooting the router whenever it happens, but this means waiting 5min every time for it to reconnect. This is becoming very frustrating, especially when working from home. I have checked all the wires and there doesn't seem to be an issue there so I don't know what is wrong with it.

Does anyone know what the issue is or how to make it stop/not have to keep rebooting it daily please?

Welcome to the forums, @giardinac . Which modem/router do you have, and are you on an FTTC or ADSL connection? IF you are on FTTC, as I suspect, and have a Hub1 router, there are instructions on 'splitting' the two bands on the 'My Router' board on this forum which may alleviate the issue.

Hello, sorry I don't what which one I have, how am I able to check this? I have tried looking on the router itself and in the advanced network settings on my phone.

If you are talking about the router, there is a label on the bottom.

On the label at the bottom of the router it says Hut1 yes. Nothing about FTCC or ADSL.

I have tried resetting the router as well, I should mention but the same issues occur. It stopped losing connection for a few days but has started again daily and twice already today.

@giardinac It is Hub1, which makes me suspect you are on an FTTC connection, in which case, once you have confirmed this, I may have further suggestions.

@Baldrick1 - any ideas? I thought there was an easy-to-find guide on splitting the networks?

Re: WIFI is connected on all devices but keeps dropping daily

You could try splitting the 2.4 and 5GHz wifi bands,

Navigate in a web browser to 192.168.1.254.

Click Advanced Settings

Enter your Hub admin password when prompted (unless you've changed it, you'll find the default password on the settings card)
Continue to Advanced Settings.
Click on Wireless.
Click 5GHz tab.
Change 'Sync with 2.4Ghz' to No.
Change the name of the 'Wireless SSID' - I added a '_5' on the end.
Save the changes.

You can then select which one you want per device.

Thanks, @dvorak - saved @Baldrick1 having to reply, and me to go searching.😀
