Useless support from Plusnet help with new router

Good afternoon folks
Sorry to vent,
Been a customer for the best part of 5 years got an old battered modem , Billy basic, 2.4ghz prehistoric. 2704n

Renewed contract last year , nothing offered ,
But with my children growing up and getting own tablets, laptops etc
I have much more traffic on my fibre connection
I have modern phones which allow me to use 5ghz but my router doesn't support this.

Politely asked Plusnet if I could upgrade To a fancy router they flat out rejected saying it will cost me £99.99

So I'm looking at alternatives like the bt homehub you can pick up for peanuts off eBay.

I need parental controls via the router as my 13 year daughter likes testing my patience so an easy block button would be great instead of finding Mac number and banning etc.

Thanks

At renewal you can negotiate a new HubOne router, but you have to ask. Best route is one from that well
known auction site!
