Unlimited Fibre Extra Broadband, VDSL right?

Just confirmation as I think I've brought the wrong type of modem.

I am right in thinking that Plus net Unlimited Fibre Extra Broadband would need a VDSL modem if my linespeed is 50Mbps?

Re: Unlimited Fibre Extra Broadband, VDSL right?

Will this do the job?

http://www.netgear.co.uk/home/products/networking/dsl-modems-routers/DM200.aspx

I'm connecting this to a Ubiquiti USG, which will connect to an AP, so I don't want wi-fi on the modem/router which is my I'm looking to replace the Plus net supplied unit

Re: Unlimited Fibre Extra Broadband, VDSL right?

From the specs the DM200 SHOULD work in bridge mode(modem only) which is what you want. The USG is then configured for PPPoE on it's WAN interface. However, I've never used the DM200 and a quick google does show people with some problems with it in bridge mode. Myself, I use a TPlink TD-W9970 in bridge mode with it's wireless disabled. It's not a pretty thing ( in fact it's downright ugly ) but it works and has good modem performance http://www.kitz.co.uk/routers/tplink_TD-W9970_review.htm

Can be picked up for £30 https://www.amazon.co.uk/TP-Link-Wireless-Support-UK-TD-W9970/dp/B013OXVA6M

Another option would be to get a used HG612 Openreach modem from ebay.

Re: Unlimited Fibre Extra Broadband, VDSL right?

Hi @rosstooke

You're totally right.

To configure a third party router you will need to consult your manufacturer or your manual to gain access to your router and find the necessary pages.

Please use the following credentials;

Encapsulation Type: PPPoE (PPP over Ethernet)
Username: (accountusername)@plusdsl.net
Password: Your account password

There is more information here regarding the VPI & VCI which you may need to input as well.

Hope this helps!
