TP-Link TL-WR940N sending/not receiving

TP-Link TL-WR940N status screen says it is sending over the WAN but not receiving. ADSL connection via a Netgear DGN1000 set to modem-only mode. Any thoughts as to why?

Re: TP-Link TL-WR940N sending/not receiving

@sitush  Welcome to the forum.

You don't say whether this set up has ever worked. Has it?

I would start by putting the Plusnet supplied equipment back in circuit and confirming that this gives you an Internet service.

If that's OK then we will need more information on what settings you are using.

Re: TP-Link TL-WR940N sending/not receiving

Thanks. The Netgear device has worked with Plusnet for years in modem-router mode but its wifi range is poor and I suspect there may be an issue with its dhcp leasing recently. I have just switched it back to that mode and it still works.

Using it in modem-only mode, the TP-Link device autodetected the settings. I am wondering if the issue is related to it selecting PPPoE rather than PPPoA (there doesn't seem to be an option for PPPoA). MTU is 1480, DNS servers have been found.

Re: TP-Link TL-WR940N sending/not receiving

Hi sitush

Before I switched to FTTC i used a TP link C7 cable router with a Netgear dg834 in modem only mode.

The C7 only supported PPPoE and not PPPoA.

The combination worked well on ADSL.

I think I remember that BTW  21 CN supports either PPP but the older IPsteam circuits only support PPPoA?

When I changed to FTTC only the modem was changed and the C7 connected immediately.

Did you set the Netgear VPI/VCI to 0/38 when it was in modem only mode?

Re: TP-Link TL-WR940N sending/not receiving

That sounds like good news re PPP then, thanks.
The Netgear was set to 0/38 prior to enabling modem-only mode. I don't think I can check if anything changed when the switch happened because, of course, it will not be query-able with its router mode disabled

Re: TP-Link TL-WR940N sending/not receiving

Fix

You have to set the VCI etc when you enable modem only mode.

Re: TP-Link TL-WR940N sending/not receiving

That seems to have done it. I moved the cable from the TP-Link WAN port to one of its LAN ports, acccessed the Netgear control panel and, working off the info in the link you gave, flipped the MUX setting from the VC option in use for years to the LLC option. The 0/38 etc stuff was already as per the linked info. Moved the cable back to the WAN port and pinged bbc.co.uk just fine. Much appreciated.
