TP-Link Omada ER605 ADSL Hub 2 Bridge Mode??

Hi,

I've seen a lot of talk regarding PPPoE connection for FTTC broadband, am I right in thinking that it's not possible to connect an ADSL broadband service via PPPoE?

I have an Omada ER605 I was trying to configure via Bridge Mode direct to the ISP, but have come up stuck so far...

It is possible BUT you need to configure the modem correctly

what are you using as the modem ?

The Hub 2 as the modem and ER605 as the Router.

Re: TP-Link Omada ER605 ADSL Hub 2 Bridge Mode??

Ah!

I assume you have the Hub2 in bridge mode and the ER605 confiured for PPPoE connected via its WAN port to a Hub2 LAN port ?

The problem with ADSL bridge mode is that the encapsulation needs to be LLC and not VC-MUX (which is the default).

I dont think the Hub2 is configurable. This cropped up a while ago https://community.plus.net/t5/My-Router/HUB2-Bridge-mode-help/td-p/1893005/page/2 but I'm not sure if it ever got resolved.

Mmmmm, maybe that's my problem.  I had it connected Hub2 WAN to ER605 WAN, I'll give the Hub2 LAN a try.

Hadn't heard of LLC or VC-MUX before, just looked it up and that may be the real stubbling block as the ER605 only seems to have configuration for LLC.

Fix

No, its the Hub2 that needs to be configured for LLC. The ER605 is just a router, its WAN connection is just PPPoE with your PLusnet credentials.

IF the bug in the Hub2 in ADSL bridge mode has been fixed , then it should work , if it hasnt , then there's nothing you can do to configure it

Re: TP-Link Omada ER605 ADSL Hub 2 Bridge Mode??

@thepix  Does that mean that connecting to a Hub2 LAN port worked then ?

No, no joy...

Had to go back to Static IP connection via LAN, disable WiFi and DHCP 😔

Re: TP-Link Omada ER605 ADSL Hub 2 Bridge Mode??

@thepix Seems like the bug wasnt fixed then, not surprised I suspect ADSL problems are not a priority.

If you want a cheap ADSL modem then look at the Tplink td-w9970. They can be configured for ADSL Bridge mode with the correct (LLC) encapsulation. They look awful but can be picked up on ebay for less than £10 inc postage.

In fact if you're anywhere near NG10 I've got one you're welcome to if you collect...

Funny you say that, I just came back to mention it looks like I could use the TD-W9970 for the intended purpose and it's great to see you suggest the same...

Thanks again.

Re: TP-Link Omada ER605 ADSL Hub 2 Bridge Mode??

I only ever used mine in VDSL bridge mode but from what I can see it should be possible to configure for ADSL bridge mode with LLC encapsulation
