Router security query

I set up a Mac today for the first time on my Plusnet Fibre broadband, I had the router passcode ready but it picked up the wifi and logged me straight in as if it were an open network, somewhat concerned as I would have expected to have entered the code as it should surely be a secure network as it shows a padlock. Any feedback/thoughts would be really welcome. Thanks.

Re: Router security query

Fix
Do you have an iPhone / iPad that is already connected to the wifi?
If so the password will be stored in your iCloud keychain so will already be known by your Mac.
