Router playing up

Hi,

I think we had a power cut (my computer turned on/oven needed time resetting) in the night but my Onehub router has started to play up. It lost all settings and has been flakey. I woke up to normal network working but no wifi. I reset it and wifi came back. But looking at the logs trying to find out why it lost all the setting it looks like it has reset multiple times during the night.

Here is the log of the restarts. The 17:41 was me doing a factory reset to see if it would update the firmware:

Is the firmware version correct? I believe an update is due and could this have caused the reset?

It will be nothing to do with firmware. The question has to be: Is it OK now? If so I suggest you put it down to 'things that go bump in the night'. The supply might have had intermittent on/off switching or low voltage 'brown outs', any of which could screw up the router settings.

Hi there.

Our tests aren't showing the cause of the drop but you had, but I notice that our suppliers have works planned at the exchange to increase the capacity of their network, so this may be related and the estimated completion date is the 5th.

This message in the logs is the key: Boot reason: watchdog reset (cause: 0x0)

It means the device locked up and it rebooted itself to get it working again. If this is happening over and over it could be that the router was damaged by a power surge when the power came back on.

Have you got another router or one you can borrow that you can use to test with?

In computing a watchdog timer is a device which monitors the health of a system. It sends out a signal at regular intervals. If the device is working propertly it's software sends an acknowledgement back to the watchdog timer which resets it. If the device has locked up or frozen then the software on the device doesn't acknowledge it. After several missed acknowledgement events the watchdog timer times out and the reset signal is sent to reboot the device.

@Baldrick1 Thanks. I have to agree, it has been stable since I posted. Just very weird, I think I had a similar problem just after installing the router in July.

With regard to the router firmware, I noticed a lot of people not having the last update time not showing up as being a cause for concern. IE something is up with the modem/router. Coupled with the fact the rollout of a new firmware currently I wasn't sure.

@Gandalf  Thanks, I'm in a new development so I assume it's going to happen quite a bit. Took over a month to get my connection sorted. 

@mikelahey Thanks, I am aware of the watchdog. As it is in warranty, I wasn't going to mess with the thing was the reason for posting. Unfortunately, I don't have a spare fiber modem. I suspect it was the wifi causing the issue, so I might disable the wifi and put on one of my Asus routers if it happens again.

It's not cause for concern. It just means the version you're currently running is the one the device shipped with.
