Router placement

Evening All

Newbie here. We have just had full fibre installed and its been installed at the front of the house downstairs along with the Plusnet Router 8XCPN9. we have temporarily installed the PC in our entrance hall. We cannot run a cable to the room upstairs so we need another repeater router that we can plug our PC and other equipment into ie Security cameras.

Any help on what to do next would be really good.

Thanks

@cwilkinson

Quick reply - have you considered running external ethernet cable? You can get somebody in to do it.

Re: Router placement

Run an Ethernet cable from the OCS to the desired location and move the Plusnet router there.

or

Run an Ethernet cable from the router to the desired location and place a switch and additional wireless access point there.

As there seems a theme of OR putting the ONT where it suits them and not the housholder, how hard did you try to get the ONT fitted where you wanted it ?  What were you told was 'impossible' that forced you to accept it where it has ended up ?

As you are where you are, maybe reconsider how 'cannot-y' running some form of cable really is. I assume you used to have your router up there and it was connected to the world by wires from there.

A repeater will not be that happy trying to run a lot of kit over a wi-fi link, so even then you might end up having to wire that to get a satisfactory system

Re: Router placement

Thanks for your input. Yes i believe the best bet would be to run a cable from wall input to the room its needed.

As for the Install.. considering no one would walk on our sloping front porch roof we did quite well.

12 pm day one, sub contractor installed all the through the wall wiring. reported the sloping roof and front tilled wall.

day 2, 10 am  Open reach arrived. looked at the job and booked a cherry picker van for the next day, Day 3 connection made from post to house, I hid the cable and at 2 pm, the Open reach returned and finished the connection.

All in all a good job well sorted... now to drill a few holes for the extension cable.

Many Thanks for suggestions.
