Router date, time and internet problem

One issue, one problem, I don't know if they are related.

Issue: the event lof in my Plusnet router shows the date/time of most recent event as 23:32:02 14 November (it is actually 11:59 23 August right now). Time/date was OK until a couple of months ago, I think.

Problem: I keep losing Internet connectivity on my Samsung Tab 7 tablet, over WiFi. Router stays up, WiFi stays connected but often, for a couple of minutes, I cannot access the Internet. I have not noticed it on other devices. When I did some investigation of the event log, some of the messages looked similar to the problems some people have had with "too many devices"  in the past. I have about 20 devices, not all WiFi and not all active at the same time.

Any suggestions on how to correct either/ both issues?

Thanks

@mobeydick

The first thing to try is a factory reset. Push a paperclip or similar in the hub reset hole, keep the switch closed for about 30 seconds, then wait several minutes for it to restart.

If that doesn’t work then come back telling us which hub you have.

Re: Router date, time and internet problem

@mobeydick

OK so you have a hub one and what looks like a good connection.

Now do a factory reset. I think that you can back up your special settings, whatever they are, if you so wish and restore them after you have rebooted.

Re: Router date, time and internet problem

Ah, you can (backup), thanks.

Stupid of me not to notice before.

Will reset router at more convenient time, and report back.

Re: Router date, time and internet problem

OK, I did a factory reset, and noticed that the time was OK. updated with my stored config and - time/date was back to 00:00:00 8th November.

My config  does not contain much - mostly names of devices, and setting their  IP addresses to fixed, plus change default passwords etc. No unusual restrictions on Firewall or ACL But, a long time ago, I had changed from the Default DHCP IP range (for some reason, which I can't remember. I believe I just restricted the the number of IP addresses available for admin reasons). Anyhow, I went back to the Default IP range and time/date now is correct.

No idea why this started going wrong though.

Anyhow, thanks for suggestion!

Re: Router date, time and internet problem

@mobeydick - I've fixed this for you. You'll need to restart (*not* factory reset) your router to apply the changes.

For the benefit of anybody else reading, the NTP time sync is broken on firmware versions 4.7.5.1.83.8.263 or lower.

OK, thank you!

Interesting - I wonder why my 'fix' worked then?

Re: Router date, time and internet problem

My router was running fine (date/time correct) today, but based on the previous email by Bob pulled, I today initiated a restart (on 27 August)..

Now, my event log is showing 00:05:06 23 March..!

 Software version 4.7.5.1.83.8.289.1.1 Last updated 26/08/21

Any ideas?

Re: Router date, time and internet problem

Restarting the router again gave the correct time and date.

It seems the Default Gateway address changes with each restart, and some alllow  the time/date update to work, and some don't.
