Power usage

I wonder if anyone can give me any information about the difference in electricity usage between the Open Reach modem & Technicolor TG582n FTTC router that I am currently using & that of the PlusNet Hub One modem router that Plusnet supply now.

@Skippy70

If you really want to know more then this article will help  http://www.ispreview.co.uk/index.php/2017/01/energy-usage-uk-home-broadband-routers-big-isps-compare... but the amount used per year is negligible

Re: Power usage

@Skippy70 have you read that smart meters have a relay in them so the electricity company can cut you off remotely. https://www.nickhunn.com/when-smart-meters-get-hacked/

That should make you paranoid Undecided

Re: Power usage

@Skippy70 it's why I'm not having one and the difficulty in changing suppliers with the current meters being installed

Re: Power usage

@Skippy70

Biggest users for energy are (in rough order)

  1. Heating
  2. Hot Water
  3. Cooking
  4. Electric Power showers
  5. Tumble Dryers
  6. Washing Machine
  7. Fridges and/or freezers
  8. Gaming PC's Old TVs
  9. TV
  10. PC
  11. laptops
  12. set top box
  13. phones and tablets
  14. routers

The top 7 are the biggest ones and those are the ones you may want  to look at to see a meaningful reduction in your bills.

@SpendLessTime

Not to forget lighting... Replaced a 300w halogen security light with a 10w LED one and noticed an immediate difference on our bills in the winter.

Re: Power usage

@dfunked

If it is a 300W light, then I would call that HEATING Wink

But point taken and I'll edit the list.

Edit: But I cannot as it has been too long since the original post. Sad
