Plusnet router DNS servers and 8.8.8.8 or 1.1.1.1 on end devices

On Unlimited fibre.     I would like to to change the  Router DNS servers to 8.8.8.8 or 1.1.1.1   this is not possible on either  PlusNet HUB One or the BT Smart Hub 6.

The question being if i change eg my Laptop and Desktop  to a static ip  and assign the DNS of 8.8.8.8 or even 1.1.1.1

what DNS servers will  i be   using ..   The routers PlusNet default servers or   or Google 8.8.8.8 or Cloudflare 1.1.1.1?

I did Google for answers but nothing definitive came up.

regards

Hi @Empire,
If you change Windows to use a different DNS to the routers IP address, then Windows will use the DNS you have set and not Plusnet DNS.

@Empire   Welcome to the forum.  🙂

As @RichardB says, a Windows DNS setting will override the router's setting, but I can't see why it would make a difference whether the device's IP address was static or derived via DHCP.

Thx, no it does not make a difference.   i just enjoy setting a static ip on end devices, probably makes me feel better i can at least have a modicum of power/control   as PlusNet have locked down DNS

@Empire

For the record you can set the DNS servers to whichever you want on the Business versions of the Smarthub.

Yes i see now just bought a   BT Smart Hub 6, yesterday EBAY. may get the BT Business version,   see what happens when it arrives in couple of days,  at least the BT Smart Hub 6 should be better than my Plusnet Hub One , i think its a bit flaky,

Its a little temperamental it seems to drop out quite a lot say for several days then be fine  cant quite put my finger on it

I read your excellent Post on Bizz Hub, but by then i had read a God zillion amount of things from all over i needed a Cold one, so did,  and pulled the trigger on a Excellent condition Smart Hub 6 from a Pet free home ( tough call ) we love dogs
