Plusnet Hub One - Bridge Mode available?

Hi,

I have connected a Dlink-878 wi-fi router to Plusnet Hub one via Cat6 cable.

Samsung TV, 2 IoT devices and 2 iphones, 2 PC and android are connected to the Plusnet Hub.

Wifi connections are a bit dodgy - slow to awake etc. Been reading the D-Link forum recommending:

"If the ISP modem has a built in router, it's best to bridge the modem. Having 2 routers on the same line can cause connection problems: Link>Double NAT and How NAT Works. Call the ISP and ask to see if the ISP modem can be bridged.  If the modem can't be bridged then see if the modem has a DMZ option and input the IP address the router gets from the modem and put that into the modems DMZDisable ALL WiFi radios on the modem. Also check the routers DHCP IP address maybe conflicting with the ISP modems IP address of 192.168.0.1. Check to see if this is the same on the ISP modem, and if modem can't be bridged, change the DIR router to 192.168.1.1 or .0.254"

Please can anyone advise whether the plusnet One Hub can be bridged and how?

Many Thanks

Re: Plusnet Hub One - Bridge Mode available?

It can't I'm afraid

Two options:-

1) Leave the dir-878 in router mode, set it's WAN configuration to DHCP and connect its WAN port to a LAN port on the Hub one. You will have to live with the double NAT situation.

2) Turn the dir-878 into a wireless AP http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=40856.0

thanks.. spent 70 quid on the D-link for longer range hence prefer to keep its wifi on.

Can I buy an alternative modem and replace the plusnet Hub one?

Both of the options allow you to keep the wifi on

Re: Plusnet Hub One - Bridge Mode available?

TPlink TD-W9970 supports bridge mode for ADSL and VDSL.   Used v3/v4 model can be picked up on eBay for a tenner.

If you have FTTC fibre, you could consider an old Huawei or ECI made Openreach VDSL modem, but most of them will be 4 to 10 years old and coming to end of their operational life imho.  (Ageing leaking capacitors a common problem)
