PlusNet Router firmware upgrade

HI there,

I have the Sagecom router (2704n i think?) and i was looking to upgrade the router firmware - the reason for this was due to the Router security vulnerability exploited by Russian hackers, which was reported the other week....

Can anyone help with the following questions please?

a) Does PlusNet push down router patches automatically as part of their service?

b) if not, is there a PlusNet support link to download this, or do i download this directly from Sagecom? (i couldn;t find an obvious link on the Sagecom website for this)

Many thanks for your help

Mark

What firmware version are you running? You can find out by browsing to http://192.168.1.254/expert_user.html
Also, what vulnerability are you referring to? To my knowledge, there are no recently published exploits that the 2704n is susceptible to.

Re: PlusNet Router firmware upgrade

I have a similar question: I have a 2704 with firmware version 7.275.2

Please can someone tell me if this needs updating, and if so how can it be done?

Re: PlusNet Router firmware upgrade

Hey there Bob - thanks for getting in touch.

I'll check the firmware version later this week, but as we only joined PlusNet a month ago i'd assume it's up to date?

Good to know the router is ok - i don't want any episodes of router-rage if i can help it Wink

The vulnerability i mentioned is quite widespead, but i wanted to update the firmware as a precautionary measure just to be safe. You can read more about it here:

Re: PlusNet Router firmware upgrade

Hi there,

I've yet to try this myself, but i believe you need to connect the router directly to the PC/laptop when upgrading firmware. I'm not sure, but i'd guess we get the latest firmware off the Sagemcom.

When i get round to it i'll let you know the steps, or provide the YouTube link i followed! Wink

Re: PlusNet Router firmware upgrade

@Longliner, 7.275.2 is not the latest. The latest is 7.275.11. If I get the time tomorrow, I'll push the update to your device.

All done. Your connection will have dropped a couple of times so apologies if you were in the middle of anything.

Nope. Plusnet routers are locked down. Plusnet update the firmware for you from the Internet.

Re: PlusNet Router firmware upgrade

Hi Bob, I'm in the same situation as MarcusMS:

I've got a Sagemcom 2704N router that I received when I subscribed to PlusNet few years ago.

The current firmware version is stuck to 7.275.2 and I saw that you upgraded Marcus' router to 7.275.11.

Could you please provide the link to a download page for the latest version or push it directly to my router?

Please note though that the admin password is not the default one, so let me know if I need to re-apply the default password first.

Many thanks,

Davide

Re: PlusNet Router firmware upgrade

Many thanks Bob for the super-quick response.

The software is now is now version 7.275.11_F2704N_Plusnet

The bootloader is still at 2.275.2, but I guess that's not the firmware.

Regards,

Davide

Re: PlusNet Router firmware upgrade

Hi, I would like to get the update as well (right now I have

7.275.6_F2704N_Plusnet

). Every week the broadband gets around 0.2 Mbps download speed and I have to contact Plusnet to solve the problem, but the fix lasts just a few days. Also, I see a LATENCY TEST ERROR message when I try to do a speed test in some websites. I am getting tired of Plusnet.
