Pf / opnsense

I've been using clearos for awhile my initial plan was to hook clear up directly to the line and use as my router (nothing els between) unfortunately that didn't work as clear os dont support PPPoe.
So I'm looking at pf or opn sence.
To what I've read up online pf has gone down hill so I've downloaded opn and dropped it in esxi to have a mess around.
So far so good however before I put it onto its own rack I wanted to ask if anyone knows if it will connect to plusnet without a modem.
It appears to have all the options there
