New router needed

Hi after talking to tech support they recommend that I buy a 3rd party router as the plus net one they supply is far to weak so looking for a list of top 5 recommendations please

I needed a modem router for FTTC so bought an tp-link archer 2800 thinking it would be worth paying a bit extra but it was rubbish, 2.4ghz had less range than my old bt router. Too cut a long story short I bought a bt smart hub 2 off ebay £40 delivered, for the price I think it's your best bang for buck by far.
